Recently I bought something from a US seller, and I'm in the US. The invoice presented to me showed the item price ($4.00) and the handling charge ($1.25). I was given a choice between Priority Mail and Parcel Post. At this point, my total showed as $5.25 since I hadn't chosen shipping method yet. Next, I selected Parcel Post and hit the "preview and pay" button.
This next page showed that my invoice total would be $4.00. Somehow it disregarded both the handling charge and the postage charge. The seller and I exchanged emails to clarify things and he ended up using Paypal to Request Money from me rather than depending on an actual invoice. This is somewhat awkward, especially if one person in the email exchange would be impatient or inattentive.
It's my impression that the communication between eBid and both Paypal and Google Checkout is faulty because I also went to all but the final step in using Google Checkout and the same result, $4.00, appeared.
I would lke to add that the shipping calculator is a good feature because as many of you know, US Postal rates are dependent on zone, and there are at least 8 zones. As well, there are several classes of shipping, so there can be possibly something like four outcomes between just two Points A and B, just within the United States, let alone the rest of the world.
I don't think it would be reasonable for a seller to have to state a fixed shipping amount in a listing, because these rates can sometimes be double to one zone versus to another, closer, zone.
I will email support with the auction number and a copy of this message.
