I thought about moving to the moon myself but it sounds pretty boring up there, apparently there's hardly any atmosphere.

On a more serious note.
This could well be one of the reasons we are going back to the moon.

A moon base would give us a much better chance to react effectively.

Sticking with the serious note. There could be millions of objects that could potentially hit Earth, and the one that hit Russia was only a relatively small piece of rock that luckily missed hitting the city. Yet it still caused over 1600 injuries. But very little time and money is being spent on finding and tracking these objects. It is not really a matter of if one hits it is simply a case of when, and if we know about them then we can prevent it. Governments will happily spend millions on flood and other defences yet most are unwilling to allocate money to this, possibly due to the chance of it landing in their own back yard are pretty slim.
