Default Using free web site hosting to increase viz

Since one of the important "counters" in gaining search engine visibility is how many other sites link into yours, you can help yourself (and eBid) by creating feeder sites into your shops, profile, favourite listings, etc. If you choose one of the sites that lets you create a web site and host it with them for free, all it will take is a little time and imagination.

If you have a favourite free hosting/building service, please share it here so that as many as possible can make the most of this useful gizmo.

I've recently been using webs.com (I won't make that an active link just in case, since it does offer a paid-for service too). It's easy to sign-up, just choose a user name (this becomes the key part of your web address) and an email address (hotmail works fine) and a few other trivial details, and away you go. There are lots of stylish free templates, and it's easy to build a site with a little content based around their suggestions.

For example, I registered http://sellonebid.webs.com/ with them and built that site (it's only got content in two pages so far, home & about) in about ten minutes.

So if you haven't yet tried anything like this, give it a go. And if you have, please share your favourite hosts and show off your results!

If anyone's with Tiscali (I know!), you get free web space as part of the deal.

I use mine to publicise all my online listings - including eBid.

On my main website, www.annmcclean.co.uk/ I have the eBid 'join eBid' link/banner on the front page. Must check to see if I've earned any buddy points from it!

Google also offer free web hosting - GooglePages

I used shoppal.com. Not free but if you allow them to place ad on your website, you get discount, so site costs $9 a month. They specalize is cutesey little boutique type stores, so if you sell girly stuff this may be for you. Rather simplistic, I think one person must run whole show, forums are poor, but for the price it is ok. After signing up with a few free services for marketing, it comes out near top on google, and has the ebid link so what more can you ask?

Does not generate a lot of sales but good place to list about 100 items to entice people to come over and look at my 200+ listings on ebid. Now we have another use for our websites. Hurray!!

Maybe try reading some of the reviews for them here. I do not think I would recommend them for anyone.

Scroll to about half way down the page and I see "Run forest run!"

Duh . . . I didn't know there were free websites, so never even thought about it. I guess it's time for another learning curve.

Thanks for telling me about this.

Something else to do in my spare time. Sigh . . .
