    Default The Church & Politics...

Hi , I hope you are all having a nice Bank holiday...( those who get it )..but back to the title...I see on tv that the church is advising people not to vote for a political Party....I am of the opinion that the Church should not stick its nose into politics....
I do not care which party...the church is not there for that....so I wonder what others feel about it....not looking for a political war....
just want to know if....the Church should or should not...be involved in politics....plain and simple...........papa.

The trouble is the Established Church is involved in politics. The representatives of the church (archbishops, bishops) sit in the House of Lords ("The Lords Spiritual" as opposed to the peers who are "The Lords Temporal"), Parliament was set up that way.

Unfortunately we do not have any sort of separation of church and state as they have in many other countries, and the church is able to interfere quite legitimately in politics.

Woo, easy now... You are opening a HUGE debate here; hope you are ready for lots of flack!

My personal opinion (as an atheist) is that the principles of religion are laudable, but no group view should ever affect politics or the judiciary.

It's a funny thing that lots of people will say that "disestablishmentarianism" is the longest word they know, but hardly any of them know what it means.

And with that deep and meaningful observation, I shall leave this thread before its inevitable plunge into rancour.

    Have a nice weekend.
