Having 'Run till sold' showing is not good advertising in the first place - it makes people think that the seller is having difficulty selling the item.
Letting items run until sold - ie forever - encourages people to 'list and run'. If there were a limit of (say) 30 days, it would encourage people to monitor their listings.
I guess there are loads of listings still running when the sellers have no intention of coming back!
