Thread: Boredom: Google Base results

    Default Boredom: Google Base results

    Saturday afternoon.

    Despite having a thousand things to be getting on with, I am bored.
    My curiosity is getting the better of me.
    I have been whiling away this Sat. Afternoon, curious to know where my listings lie on Google Base using relevant search terms.

    Here are the just some of the results.
    Keyword first;
    auction item;
    position.

    The position results were all sorted by relevance, rather than recent post date. My conclusion at the bottom

    Despite this excellent promotion tool, why are sales still low for me on ebid?

    Are buyers not aware of this excellent search tool?

    Are the 'majority' still sticking to feepay and the river to make their book purchases?

    Any thoughts and opinions on Google Base?

    If its any consaltion my sales on feebay are well below the norm and some of my regular customers are full tiime sellers who are telling me the same thing.
    So i put it down to the nice weather , wimbledon .
    And the only reason im online today is i cycled too far this morning and my legs feel like jelly.

    One thing i will add most buyers prefer to pay by Paypal its a sad but true fact, and by not offering it you may lose sales, i did lose sales when i dropped it on some items.

    I hate to say it - but I tend to go to 'the river' for popular new books as lots of sellers list them for a penny and even when the postage is added I would still often end up paying less there than anywhere else on-line.

    I buy new dvds from p*lay - usually paying less than a fiver with no postage - I then sell them on to family members and friends for twice that as they would normally pay £15 or so in a local store

    I have a feeling that there was a transient effect on sales of almost all collectables, books and recorded music when internet shopping and especially person to person sales, became possible. I bought masses of CDs in my first 2 years on the other place. Now I have almost everything I want. I think the same goes for books. Once one would have to hunt for years to find a book, now you just google it (well, apart from "On Hazardous Service" by Mervyn Lamb, which I can't find anywhere and could find homes for several copies if anyone has it).

    I used to have a number of saved searches for particular items - they've all served up the required items (except the book mentioned above)!

    I think you hit the nail on the head there - most people who were genuinely out looking for things have already found them by now, so it's only new collectors or buyers who are looking, and most of them have probably only heard of fleeBay and Amzn. If something is not available there then they will either give up or look on Google. The plus side of Google is that adverts pop up all over the place now, on commercial and personal websites, so your eBid listings could still be seen "on" Amzn or fleeBay!
