Thread: Factory Refurbished Items

  1. #1

    Default Factory Refurbished Items

If an item is a factory refurb, should it be listed as new or used? Used implies used by the seller or a previous owner, but when it's a factory refurb and sealed from the factory it seems kind of in a limbo between new and used.

Perhaps it should be listed as new with the explicit notice that it is 'new' from the factory as a factory refurb?

I would go with "new" - after all, it has a guarantee and all that, hasn't it?

I think you are right that it should be mentioned in the listing.. but you are a responsible sort!

I had much the same query as I had magazines that had never been opened (still in cellophane bag) not new as they were from 2003/4 but not used. I opted to put used but specified in the description that they were unopened.

if resealed by factory it can be listed as new but check if guarantees are still classed as 12 months etc. as some only offer 3 months on refurbished items thats why they cheaper

Maybe it's worth requesting a Refurbished option in the Item Condition box.

Im not happy with new bit because sometimes they are items returned with a fault that has been repaired and to me this is not new unused.

Maybe it's worth requesting the addition of
    Refurbished
    Unused

to the Item Condition dropdown, I don't think it would be a major problem for the guys to add.

I don't think it's a big deal for me, since the only reason I asked is that I ended up with an extra pair of Sansa e250 mp3 players. I was going to list one, and while listing it stopped at the new/used button, and decided to ask.

But, since it's not something I'd sell often I really wouldn't want to ask just for my two mp3 players.
