Seems interesting...I haven't checked this out yet, still jetlagged...Does anyone know if it has a facitilty where you can place a shopping basket on your own website for payments?

I had a quick browse of the Terms &Condition. The thing that leapt out at me was if you have a decision made against you you will have to refund and have a £7 fine.

Google Checkout is not charging a fee to process payments for the rest of this year.
Check the forums, they were having problems with Payout to sellers, but I'm sure they fixed alot of those issues.

I checked it out and signed up this morning. They do a BUY IT NOW button for websites, if you only want to sell 1 item at a time, but not a shopping trolley unless you already have one that can be integrated into their system. There are plenty around but I think you have to pay for them. I use a shopping trolley on my website, but unfortunately it is Paypal and I dont think they would like me to integrate that into Google. Hopefully they will provide their own system later down the line.
I have already ticked the Google Checkout option on one of my auctions so it will be interesting to see how it works. That is assuming there is a buyer out there who 1. wants to actually BUY something from me and 2. is willing to give it a go instead Paypal.

Google Checkout have made a lot of progress in the US and of course the brand name is well known and has a good reputation. So there seems no reason why it shouldn't be successful in the UK. Ebay are banning it of course but like Ken says, I doubt whether they will be able to continue to get away with that. I think it will be easier to shift people away from PayPal to Google Checkout than to Nochex or the more obscure alternatives (which imho includes PPPay.com)
