Hi Penni, I hope you get well soon. I can relate to your experience, last year I had a similar experience with nhs24, originally phone them at 8.15pm. on a sunday evening. after 3 returned phone calls they suggested I drive to A&E 20 miles away. I explained I was not capable of driving in that condition....by now it was 1.30 in the morning and the local cab offices were all shut. they then said that they will get a doctor to email a prescription to our nearest all night pharmacy and I should go and pick it up immediately. when asked where the nearest all night chemist was I was informed there were 2....one 12 miles away or I could go tto the a&E 20 away.I thanked them kindly and asked if they needed any qualifications to do their job? just a good telephone manner was the reply. I finished the conversation with "maybe a brain would be a good qualification to have".
I saw a doctor the next morning and have been seeing specialist ever since. the other side of the coin has been completely different, I collapsed a few months ago in the evening. other half dialled 999, paramedic within 5 minutes, ambulance 3 minutes later and straight to the hospital, the emergency services were brilliant.
we wish you well penni, but next time dial 999.

Britain's a funny country isn't it?....on the one hand we're told how environmentally irresponsible we are for owning and at the same time wishing to drive our cars....by the Government , EU, etc....and then on the other hand we're subliminally brainwashed into believing that its natural that we should all aspire to car ownership, by the same Government who need the population to carry on owning these vehicles as its such a very handy revenue raiser.
Unless you live in a major then you're all out of luck when expecting there to be useful public transport. Nether do this same Government actually in reality wish to see a decent slice of the population using cycles...after all ....how can they keep track of us?...so it is clear that we're actually expected to own cars.
My guess is the UK govt gets a HUGE amount of revenue from auto related taxes.....petrol taxes are amazingly high. There are taxes VAT I assume on car sales, and VAT I assume on MOTs, Licenses, etc.
