Default Who is the most dumped author?

I've been doing the charity shops this afternoon, looking for something to read.
Tried the library, but they've only got coffee and zombie-occupied computers.

I was wondering why there were so many cookery books there, and how far they would stretch if you laid them end-to-end, how you do, when the thought occurred to me that that would be a measure of an author's dumpability.

(I'm thinking of applying for a lottery grant to research this important question)

If all the books in all the charity shops were laid end-to-end BY AUTHOR, whose do you think would stretch the farthest?

I reckon Clarkson's would reach the moon and back.

It's not really a fair method. Authors who have written many different books will stand a far higher chance of being dumped than those who only wrote one or two. For example, imagine just how many Stephen King there are in charity shops from his fifty four full length novels, then add in the novellas, non-fiction, screenplays, limited editions, special editions, anthologies, short stories, poems, titles written under another name (Richard Bachman) and so on.

If you consider an individual book, it moves - sort of 2 years behind the best seller list. I'm assured that as one copy of 50 shades of Grey leaves a charity shop, 3 more are donated at the moment. In a bit, it will settle down and something else will take over.

On the DVD front, no charity shop is complete without a copy of Notting Hill!

My nomination would be 50 shades - I remember that one charity said that they had so many copies that they did not know what to do with them; then mentioned that due to the way they were printee they can't even be sent for recycling. Unfortunately i can't remember which charity it was or they would join my black-list of charities (those who chug are definately verboten.

I thought someone would say Dan Brown.
Those used to fill the shelves like some sort of lichen growth, but they seem to have mouldered away, mostly.

Not seen a lot of Stephen king, Damien, so perhaps they get bought and re-read.

I suppose I'm talking about the "stickers" - which are literally dumped, and rarely read again.

It's a pity we can't use some of these "terror-gifts" * as land-fill. We're gradually being swallowed up by the sea here on the east coast.

    * The "terror-gift" is a Danish expression for an item which is given to you, which you hate, but can't get rid of for fear of offending the giver.
What a picture it conjours up.

What a great expression! Each family death carried the (minor) benefit of being able to get rid of things I didn't want just because the person was not around to be offended.
