Thanks for all your replies.
My posts only state my own opinions, unless I've stolen them from someone else
interesting those parcel quotes
Having said that though Bill, if you do webseaarches for most of the organisations you use you can find lots of nasty feedback. (Or at least I do, including for this site). After booking with a well known northern coach tour company, I came across horrendous reviews; however I have not had any problems with them.
What you have to remember is that many people only go on line to lodge complaints.
Back to Hermes, I have used them for many years receiving parcels from Cotton Traders and others with only one missing parcel (which was insured and so quickly replaced). I have used them 3 or 4 times to send parcels and had no problems up to now.

There is one company I buy from regularly who uses them - I've never had a problem, except for the fact that they are slow. But then I am getting free p&p, and they offer paid for alternatives.
I have used them myself occasionally to send something. Although they are slower than RM, they are also considerably cheaper and as long as the customer is aware of that and is willing to wait a little bit longer for their item, then that is fine with me. Never had problems with breakages and I have sent fragile items with them.
