Grief, whatever was the rationale for that? It should be mandatory for dogs to be chipped and have licences. Either missing, dog impounded, 7 days, owner untraceable, gas chamber.

If I'm elected as MP I promise not to claim inappropriate expenses or hike my pension above inflation. Please form an orderly queue at the voting booth.

No, John, you wouldn't get elected on that platform.

I think the poster above, is just looking for a reaction.

    Why raise an old thread?

Surely they could of found enough new topics to talk about?

    That's not John's style - really it's not

Then I'm sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick.

But suggesting gasing dogs, is bound to have comments made, even if between people just reading this forum.

    Thanks for the defence Madelaine.

Teddyrose, I wasn't just looking for a reaction, but yes, it was somewhat tongue in cheek. Writing 17 paragraphs wouldn't be a good way to make my point. Besides, it is the Kitchen Table, so compared to some I'm hardly OTT (though I'm willing to try!).

If it gets more people thinking about whether dog licensing would be a good thing, maybe there's an opportunity for change.

As for raising an old thread, you're implying I was replying late. Absolutely true. Is that a sin? Since October 22nd I've had appalling service from BT, phones out for days, internet often up for only minutes or even seconds at a time. Affecting a whole bunch of us. Openreach want to close the lane and replace the aerial phone wire (100 pairs), but they have to wait for bureaucrats in Highways.

So while the rest of you are buzzing around like bluebottles and chatting at high speed, I'm standing here like a tortoise.

Crazy the child's mother didn't listen when the dog owner said no, apparently no means OK to some people...

When I lived at my old apartment complex there were a lot of small children outdoors a good deal of the time, mostly without parents around. I used to try and keep Winston away from them, but he's just so darn sociable. Fortunately he's one of those big easygoing guys who doesn't get sore when a kid pulls his tail, (happened a few times before I could get him away from the child). I do wish people wouldn't let small children wander about by themselves, it's just too dangerous IMHO, between strangers, cars and animals you never know what might happen.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

    You are welcome.

For everyone else, I've actually met John and his wife - they are nice people who own pets!

Wanted to share a picture with you showing classic calming signals that a dog gives when he is NOT comfortable. Please note all four signs in these pictures indicating that the dog is NOT enjoying this situation
    1. Licking the lips
    2. Showing the whites of his eyes
    3. Panting when not overheated
    4. Turning his head away

This just may stop a child being injured or a dog being destroyed. Please pass it on.
