According to many beliefs

Would it therefore be prudent to celebrate Christmas a week earlier
and maybe have ebids secret santa running in November

As you (probably) know Pam and I are Pagan's.... The Winter Solstice is also called Yule and is when we celebrate what the Christians call Christmas anyway.

and just to confuse the matter further our New Year starts on the 31st October, so Yule is the first and not the last major festival of our year.

Ab urbe, Armenian, Assyrian, Bahá'í, Bengali, Berber, Buddhist, Burmese, Byzantine, Chinese, Coptic, Ethiopian, Hebrew, Hindu Vikram Samvat, Hindu Shaka Samvat, Hindu Kali Yuga, Holocene, Iranian, Islamic, Japanese, Julian, Gregorian, Korean, Minguo or the Thai solar calendar?

All of these give different dates; some say we are a long way off from 2012 and others say we are a long way passed 2012. (<---- Clickable link)

I told Pam I am not buying any non Yule presents until the 22nd just in case..... well I dont want to waste my money If I cant give them out on the 25th do I

OK, I know need a signed statement from somebody of influence.
to send to the Electric, Gas, Water and Council.
As to why I'm not going to pay them any more money until after Christmas....Please.

Yes, you should.
If the doom sayers are right then we'll all be dead anyway, so saving a few quid on presents won't make any difference, and if they are wrong then you'll want to have the Xmas stuff ready as normal.
