And, in addition to getting the money for anything you sell, you never have to touch it, dust it or house it again! I've just spent most of the morning dealing with more of my late mother-in-law's hoardings so I'm particularly sensitive about accumulated stuff right now.

Can anyone explain why she kept a bank statement from 1945 & her Christmas cards from 1978?

The 1945 bank statement would be an interesting bit of memorabelia to some people. Being family stuff/names, etc you might not want to sell it, but it's an interesting insight into the life and times during the War.

No, really, it isn't. It's just a list of numbers. I've just chucked bookshop receipt from 1913. My husband's family have no sense of proportion. Half the time I'm finding empty envelopes which should have been thrown out the day they arrived in the house (and, yes, I retrieve the stamps or keep the cover to sell if it is interesting enough).
