Thread: Some Store Categories for Stamps Don't Make Sense

  1. #1

Default Some Store Categories for Stamps Don't Make Sense

I suspect these were set up when eBid was only in the U.K. Now that buyers and sellers are from all over the world, some of them no longer make sense.

For example: "Foreign Covers"??? Actually, I think this is a waste of space. I doubt there will be many stores that sell only foreign covers; there are none in the U.S. listing. And whether or not an item is "foreign" depends on where the reader is located.

Another example: "Rest of World"??? Please define. That's where we put our store because we sell World-Wide items. Don't you think "World-wide" would be more accurate, and make sense regardless of where the seller is located and where the buyer is located?

Tia, the stamp categories, stores or not, are a mess. They need a serious overhaul and it needs to be professional.

There is a reason the other sites have so many listings and buyers - they have created a community for stamp sellers and buyers.
    Here it is.

All of us who have stamp shops are required to select a category in order to set up the store. The choices are displayed when I click on the "Stores" tab and select "Stamps".

CHANGE "Rest of World" to "World Wide" --- The current name makes no sense on an international site. It's the one I chose, but it's wrong, because we are selling stamps from the U.S. as well as the rest of the world.

CHANGE "Foreign Covers" to "Covers" -- There are some stores in "Other" that specialize in covers, but apparently the sellers didn't want to use this category with this name. The word "foreign" should not be used anywhere on eBid anymore. If I want to buy a U.S. product that happens to be listed by a U.K. seller, the U.S. is NOT foreign to me.

These categories show up in the drop down list that is displayed when I add a new stamp and when I check on the "Buy" page.
"Rest of World: Collections" should be "Worldwide: Collections"
"Rest of World: First Day Covers" should be "Worldwide: First Day Covers"
"Rest of World: United Nations" should be "Worldwide: United Nations" (The United Nations is the only organization in the world which is neither a country nor a territory that is permitted to issue postage stamps.)
"Rest of World: Other" should be "Worldwide: Other"
    "Foreign Covers" should be "Covers"

Are we talking about stamp categories or categories to house eBid Stores?

If it's the latter we are able to create "Store Only" categories that are used for eBid Store categorisation and not for item listing.....

The first part of my request is to change the categories that show up when I go to My eBid, My eBid Stores, select my stamp shop, go to Section 2, and select Store Category "Stamps". I was required to choose one of the Store Subcategories. There are only two categories that are remotely correct for those of us who sell worldwide stamps. One is "Rest of World" and one is "Other". All the sellers who are using "Rest of World" are actually selling worldwide stamps. Please change "Rest of World" to "Worldwide".

The other subcategory, "Foreign Covers", is also on this same drop-down list. I'm not using it, but it annoys me every time I see it. What does the word "Foreign" mean on a supposedly international site? If an eBid store is selling only United States postal covers, and they choose to sell only to United States buyers, they will have to describe their store as selling "Foreign Covers". That's silly.

    ================================================== ============
The second part of my request is indeed about the categories in which we list stamps. I have a listing up right now. The main category is "Stamps". When I page through the subcategories, I see that I can choose "Rest of World: Collections", or "Rest of World: First Day Covers", or "Rest of World: Other". I also see "Foreign Covers" on this list. This raises the same question. "Rest of World" from where? "Foreign" from where? Presumably the United Kingdom. But eBid is no longer just a UK site. Shouldn't these be changed now that eBid is now an international site? Just change "Rest of World" to "Worldwide" and change "Foreign Covers" to "Covers" on these four selections. Problem solved.

From any country that we do not have a specific category for currently.
