Strange thing was - for an Aussie program - most of the parts were played with British accents, which was par for the course in those days. (apparently more posh) Y'tube has examples of this.

Otherwise all the old Brit comedies eg. Not Only But Also (Peter Cook & Dudley More), Steptoe & Son, Till Death Us Do Part, Charlie Drake, Benny Hill, The Two Ronnies, Open All Hours, Porridge, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, etc. etc. ad infinitum.
And now - Mrs Brown's Boys
Was like a telly programme we use to have over here, was called Please Sir, I remember when I was in bed I use to hear the gongs on the 10 O'clock News, use to lay in bed wondering what programme it was, it must of been good cos my step parents use to watch it every night lol.

I suspect this thread is just a way to find out who the old farts are and who are the whippersnappers.

I'm an old fart then. We got a TV in time for the moon landings, which I was allowed to stay up late to watch. Actually it may have been the 1968 olympics in mexico we got the telly for cos i remember watching it. It had such a catchy theme tune

We got a TV when I was 9. Before that we watched on very rare occasions some children's programs at a friend's house. In those days there weren't too many TV shows dubbed into German, but I remember Lassie and The Avengers. A lot of the programs mentioned here I watched with my children and it improved my knowledge of the English language a great deal.

    TV taught me to read.

Sick of my perpetual " What's it say Mum? ", my mum would eventually crack and retort "Learn to read". So I did.

The first thing I can remember watching was the Queen's coronation.

At the time I wondered whether it would be on other people's television at the same time.

My memories make me feel a little spooked by the Dr Who episode of Maureen Lipman on TV for the Coronation.

I was about 8 when I went to my first movie, then didn't go to another till I was about 15. It would have been fun to see Zorro on the big screen instead of on the little tv............but, have to say, Saturday mornings spent in my jammies watching tv in the cozy livingroom was a good memory!!

"I'm a rather fat feathery owl called sage"

Oh No i'm going to have those songs stuck in my head all day now.
