I just read that Paul Daniels auctioned off his wig for charity and Paul Mcartney one of his Vox amps.
(not on ebid)
I really think ebid should be doing some of these.
It would be great free publicity.
I'm not sure how they're supposed to acquire the item in the first place? If the celebrity donates the item to make the best possible price for a charity close to their hearts, then the sad fact is that it will get more attention elsewhere than here. There's a mismatch of motivations there. If *you* can get hold of something like that, and you're not bothered about making the most money you could, then it would be great - but you've got to find your item first. I love ebid, but I don't think pretending it's something it's not (yet!) is helpful, sorry.
I love Bagpuss!!!
Here's the way to do and it would cost nothing.
Here in New Zealand we don't have ebay (minuscule)
We have our own incumbent - Trademe who have the market sewn up
And we have a minow called Sella
Sella struggles to get a profile.
The other day they did a charity auction.
The got some tourist hotel to give away a holiday
This went on to Sella as an auction with all the proceeds going to a charity
AND the our major tv program featured it all one morning during its breakfast show - a good charity story.
I'd be more than willing to donate my wig for charity!
