Default Best first car for a teenager

Which is the best and safest car, for someone who has just passed their test?

Life is serious but taking it too seriously robs you of
    happiness, fun and productivity

20+ years old, ugly, fits no more than 4 people, good gas mileage, standard transmission., no 4x4, built well enough that when they total it the car takes most the damage and not the child. The child will most likely hate you, but you will feel better.
I have new listings! Check them out!

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.
Fed up with paying to sell?
