Life is serious but taking it too seriously robs you of
happiness, fun and productivity
ROFL, they have a very valid point imo. We are just a nation of whingers
Hardly. It's the nancy boy southerners that give the nation a bad name.Originally Posted by shelleywelley

I phoned my work to let them know I wouldn't be in for a few days & they didn't believe me as there was nothing on the news & they were in their summer clothes. I took photos each day with a copy of the daily paper. They were astonished at how much snow there was - especially as nothing had been on the news.
Here in the south, schools close when there is a hard frost & there is chaos on the roads - I can remember doing schoolwork in gloves and overcoat. I learned to drive in 3' of snow (no steering required), winter was generally autumn to spring with only the odd few days' break.
Only when you get an inch of snow in the home counties do we hear about the 'blizzard' or 'arctic conditions' on the national news.
I'm with you there Sludge.
I am an ex-pat southerner, but spent some of my school years in the middle of Dartmoor so I know what snow is !
I also spent a few years in Germany, and until recently I was a self-employed m/cycle courier which meant riding in ALL weathers or going broke. Riding a bike in Scotland in heavy snow, or crossing the high peaks in Derbyshire when the car drivers had wimped out and the Snake Pass/Woodhead Pass were closed. After a few years of that, you start to wander why everybody else moans about the weather.
