Default Sat Nav advice please :)

    Good morning, everyone.

I am considering the purchase of a sat nat but have no idea which to buy.
My 'journeys' are mostly local so don't really need one for those; but it would be handy for holidays - might avoid words with the navigator! It won't be used outside the UK.

Bearing all that in mind, does anyone have a recommendation, please?

    Good morning, Gyronny

Would it fit the bill for my needs? Don't want to pay the earth when it wont be used very much.

I use a Navman with Traffic Alerts Never let me down yet. One thing though IF the weather is very cloudy (or rainy) it takes a while to pick up a sat

morning cookbooks , I have a tomtom...it is ok , I cannot remember the price....but please think ....there are always updates , some of which you have to pay for....and if you are not going to use it much...why not just buy a wee map.... a lot cheaper and just as reliable...saying mine is ok...it has tried to take me into a field or some other silly place....so....save your money....but enjoy your holidays , where ever you go...........papa.

I use NavFree which is a free one supplied for the iphone. Not sure whether its available for other smart phones but worth looking out for.

I'm not totally up to date on this but it might be worth a read here: http://www.google.com/mobile/navigation/

It runs on Android phones and avoids the often costly updating of maps.

From what you say you need it for it may be more cost effective to buy a suitable phone rather than a dedicated SatNav unit.

I have a TomTom, too, it works great if it's updated from the website regularly.

Best wishes for many sales to all,
