Thread: Pet pigs

  1. #1

    Default Pet pigs

Just seen on TV and found a link on net that if you have a "pet pig" you need various things, 1 of which is a "pet pig walking licence" http://www.defra.gov.uk/defrasearch/...KING+LICENCES+

I had goats for years~ but didn't replace them when they died of old age.

    Too many restrictions these days.

At first blush, that requirement to have a license to walk your pet pig sounded hilarious. Why don't you have to have a similar license to walk your dog or rat? Apparently those in charge think pigs are at risk for contracting many diseases, or of spreading diseases. I still think it's hilarious you have to submit your planned route. It's almost like somebody in headquarters thinks pigs are untouchable. Almost like they are of a definite religious persuasion....

yep you need a licence to even take it walkies, used to keep pigs years ago for meat production and when it came time to take them to market had to go to the local police station and ask for a pig movement licence,

Went in one day and their was a new young constable behind the counter and i said can i have a pig movement licence please, the look on his face was one of are you taking the p##s, thought i was gonna get locked up luckily the normal officer that dealt with the counter was just round the corner in the office,

so the moral of the story is when you go and ask for your licence be carefull of the way you say it

Back "in the day" when we raised pigs, when it came time to slaughter one we just called up the butcher up in Redmond. They'd come down, do the deed, haul it off, and in 2 weeks my freezer was half-full of some of the best pork I've ever had.

    Getting a pig movement license....PULEEEEEEZE!!!!

Now that's really funny. Not only do you have to have a movement license, but you have to report the movement.

I had a pet vietnamese pot bellied pig when I was about 12, before we brought it home, we had to go get a licence from the police.

Sadly, he died during a really harsh winter, lovely thing, but sooooo ugly lol.

Well we won't be hearing from Fossy for a while! At least until he heals.
