book database glitch

I am trying to add some books to the database, but it keeps telling me the genre needs to be at least 1 character. If I use the drop down box the only choice is "please choose" and it won't allow anything to be entered. I am new and generally confused , so if anyone has any suggestions I need them.

I just listed 5 more books, and of course I had no trouble at all. I will have more books, hopefully, later this week. Should I run across the problem again, I will do what I should have done initially... take screen shots. Sorry to have troubled you over what appears, now, to be nothing!

It happened again. The problem seems to be only if the book database has no information at all about a particular book. The genre error occurs when I attempt to update the pre-filled information. I have a couple of screen shots, where should I send them? Or I can post them here if you tell me how.
