WorldPay is one of the big name providers of internet payment services.

It was developed by NatWest in the early days of e-commerce to be its online payments processing arm. When NatWest was taken over by Royal Bank of Scotland Group, RBS closed down the online payments system that it had developed and WorldPay was adopted as the enlargened RBS Group’s internet payment services provider. The services that it provides tend to be more expensive for smaller traders than alternatives like PayPal and Google Checkout. However, e-commerce traders who bank with RBS, have a bricks and mortar presence and who use WorldPay’s sister company Streamline for person present card transactions might prefer to use WorldPay for online payments processing and might be able to negotiate volume related transactions costs discounts across the range of transactions processing that they have with RBS.
