    Are you using Vista.
If so you must right click notepad and open as Administrator, then open that file within notepad (when you enter etc you must change 'text' to 'all' or you wont see you hosts file to edit), add the line and save.

I don't know if this will help anyone with Virgin/NTL cable - as I am not that savvy with the intimate workings of the internet.

If you do a repair on the network connection it clears the DNS cache.

Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection > Support > Repair

I assume this is a DNS cache for your own connection into the internet so even if the DNS servers have updated this cache could still hold old data.

On the other hand I could (as often) be talking total <bleep>.

Imagine you've moved house. You've sent a change of address note to all your friends, and arranged for mail redirect with RM, but it's a new estate and the full details of what house is where, and how the post code maps out isn't quite understood by all the people in the sorting office, and the posties responsible for the new round haven't learnt where everybody is yet.

If your friend sends you a letter and it doesn't get delivered, is that your fault because you moved?

I managed to get into the forums late last night, and Ray (even less computer savvy than myself) managed to get into both eBid and the forums this morning.

I do have a buyer who bought and paid for an item on Sunday evening before Mondays shut down and she can't get back into eBid. I've given her various links to try that and have now given her Gothicinas kind help including a link to the web pictorial guide - hopefully something will work for her.

Both myself and the buyer are on virgin / ntl. Not sure what other system she is using.

I'm on Virgin Media, using Ubuntu (Jaunty) and Opera.

Can't get onto either the forums or the main site without the edited line in the Hosts file forcing the redirect.

Speed is still that of an arthritic snail too.
