Is this a coin?
I asked about this coin in the Listings board but didn't get any answers so I've also put it here hoping coin collectors / sellers might see it and answer my questions.
I bought it on TOS as a Matt Proof coin. By the time I found out that the mint didn't issue any matt proofs it was too late to send it back. Shortly after the sellers listings all dissappeared.
My questions are.
Can this be listed as a coin as the Mint didn't issue it in this condition?
As it has been altered is it now a fake or a fantasy coin?
I know some people collect fantasy coins, mint errors and other oddities so would anyone be interested in it if it were listed?
Would I be breaking any Ebid rules by listing it. (I would make it clear in the listing that it was not issued by the Mint in matt finish.) As the seller was not honest with the description I assume that it is not a proof but an ordinary £5 coin.

Re: Is this a coin?
It is still a coin and still worth £5.

So yes, it is still a coin of its face value - but I wouldn't use it to buy a bag of crisps.

Re: Is this a coin?
looks like a fantasy to me, as such no face value. It's only genuine and has value if it is struck by the RM.
Why a fantasy, it looks like copper £5 struck in Silver or Gold, trials are different but £5 trials never escape the Royal Mint.
What to look for
What are the initials under the bust on the obv, if its not a RM artist, then it's not a RM coin. The bust approved for that year will correspond with the 50p to 1p coin, compare the intitials. If it is a trial etc, there will be something indicating this and there is not here. Look for the intials under the the ground line on the rev are there any, if so look them up for artists. Is there edge lettering, what does it say Lastly check on the RM website to see what they have that is similar.
The REV is styled upon the 1953 crown, but the royal garter in the date is a bid of a historical no, no. The mark of value, if ever there on a £5, should be on the rev not the obv. The Obv is styled upon 1970's coins and so is unlikly to meet royal approval.
Whats it worth - what ever two people will bid for it !
