Hard on the heels of the avian flu hitting our turkeys, we now have the government vastly upping their order for antivirals (anti flu drugs), surgical masks and respirators.

Are they just being cautious or is something nasty lurking round the corner?

OMG, you just gav me a flashback. When I worked at the local benefit office, management worked out that 65% of the staff would die of bird flu (if an outbreak occurred), but the unfortunate few left would be capable of maintaining a service and cover all jobs. We laughed our heads off at them. Caring, sharing bosses :(

Its unfortunately around the corner! Its only a matter of time. The thing is Its fine getting all these drugs and masks sorted and I know its going to be a killer (Estimates are that EVERYONE will know someone that dies from it) Thats frightening!. But the thing is an epidemic last for an estimated 3 months so what are you going to do? Stay at home and not allow anyone in your house? great so if it don't get you this time what about the future..bleak is'nt it.......

PS if the programme I watched is anything to go the thing that really struck me as a parent is that YOU could be sufferring from this terrible flu (And you cant move!) and your kids are laying there sufferring to so you cant help them either. Shudders at the thought...

Damian, if you search a little further back you should be able to find how many millions the government spent on an Anthrax policy as well. You might also like to search for the current incidences of BSE, the abandonment of statutory TB testing in cattle, the abolition of the tetanus immunisation programme (followed by a swift reinstatement), the current TB trends in human populations and any number of similar 'budgets'. Whilst doing so, please ask what they spent the revenue generated from the sell-off of a huge chunk of the country's gold reserve and, perhaps, mention the set-aside for the NHS of a 'further' 25p per pack from cigarettes that was claimed a few years ago. You could also ask them what happened to Shergar LOL

The thing people Forget if WHEN this Panademic hits Its going to knock half the Country flat and a Lot of people wont go to work etc etc so that begs the question of FOOD and DRINK! With no one working there will be no deliveries to your shop and therefore pandamonia will break out. My advice and it comes from reading about these things is to make sure you have a cupboard full of tins and lots and lots of bottled water stored. I always keep 4 big bottles of water around the house anyway although I'm using the tin stuff up at the moment as it needs to be rotated!

ITS GOING TO HAPPEN (Quote the top people) Its just a matter of When!

PS Power will also be a problem (heat and Light) Again I have a generator just big enough for one light or a 1 Bar heater!

I don't worry about it! But its better to be prepared!!
