I need to go and see a neighbour about having her tree cut back, is anyone able to give me any ball park figures for what this is likely to cost.

...your'e life!

...sorry Ken...but I can see no one has answered your question as yet...felt I should at least 'bump' this for you...not really sure what you are asking. If it is your neighbours tree why should it cost you anything?

Hi Ken,
It probably very much depends who does the "chopping" & how high they have to go.
I know last year, my neighbours had to pay £300 for the electricity co. to lop 3 sycamore branches away from the overhead power lines.
Ouch....£100 a branch!
Saying that, they did have a cherry picker etc. but still resorted to guys using harness & ropes.

I've got a similar problem, only i'm trying to kill a tree before it grows any bigger. Other neighbours, who think they're doing their bit for the planet....planted an OAK TREE two years ago......8 feet from MY garden walls.....(which cost £3,000 to build)& I hope they've got plenty of insurance, cos they're going to need it!!

Hope you get sorted though

Yvonne

How long's a piece of string Ken? It entirely depends on the size of the tree, what it is, where it is, whether you want it topped, whatever. It's not usually cheap because a good tree-feller will have Public Liability Insurance. If the tree is overhanging a pavement, house or garage, it will cost more. Brittle trees, and climbing will cost more.
Dave and myself used to earn quite a good living doing this when we were younger. He was a Tree Feller for the Crown. I still cut my own trees down though I still hate chain saws.

Think your looking at around 400 to 800, get quotes, these figures are roughly what my works have to pay out depending on size and obsticles ect,

Ken if youre on good terms with your neighbour then great. If the tree belongs to your neighbour, legally they have to foot the bill, if it is overlooking your garden / property you can ask them nicely if they would clear it up ie: get the tree surgeon in. If youre not on good terms with your neighbour then legally if the tree is invading your property or in the way of pending projects, then you can get someone in to cut down the offending branches BUT....................... by Law you have to give your neighbour back their branches as it is still their property, if you make a suggestion to them of your intensions, stupid question but. Do ask them in front of a witness preferably not family, if they would require the branches back. If you dont do this it will be considered theft. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the input folks, I just had no idea nad wanted to have some vague figures for when I go to talk to her. I'm hoping she will get it done and pay for it :) If not I presume it will be cheaper for me just to dump it all in her garden rather than pay to have what I get cut off removed!

Bit of a tuffie Ken,but good luck to you anyway, hope you receice a favourable result. If is in a precarious or dangerous location, surely good sense will prevail.Tree surgeons usually make the lopped banches into chippings, also a good mulch to cover your borders to keep weeds down.the harnesses etc are part of the Health and safety act for protection of life.Be lucky mate.

I hated the harnesses Allan. If you've ever been left dangling 30 foot up a tree, by someone "having a laugh" you'd know why. I also hated the climbing irons. I once slipped and the spike went into my other ankle. I always felt safer climbing with a good pair of boots. Absailing down a tree trunk that you have legged up can be fun. The only times I got hurt falling was from the harness snagging and throwing me against the trunk. I have no head for heights, but sometimes a branch needed more strength on the rope to guide it away safely than I could manage. Dave used to make the undercut and I would go up and complete the cut while he managed the rope. I took the forestry exams and passed, which was necessary to get the Insurance. I still don't know how I passed, because it must have been obvious I was in a blue funk every time I climbed. I still prefer to be on terra firma while felling a tree. Taking them down bit by bit is more hazardous.

Hi All

I'm new to online bidding and buying. Am very glad I found this site as an alternative to ebay. Could you guys advise me on something please?

I bought a designer bag last week online from a company called couturedemode for 800 pounds as it was allegedly authentic. When I went to authenticate the bag at the boutique, I found out that it was a fake. When I requested for a full refund on the grounds of misrepresentation, company is very defensive and would only allow a refund of 600 pounds as they claim 200 pounds will go to shipping and handling and restocking fees.

I'm new to this and am wondering if any of you have prior experience as to what recourse I may have? Thank you so so much!
