Depending on when you go, when you come back, whether you book in advance or choose a "package deal", you're looking at £26 - £152 approx.

Unfortunately Red their probably isn't ONE price.

Some years back my mates stepkids were coming for a visit to Essex, they lived in Newcastle.
The journey from Newcastle to London with a return (can't remember the duration for sure) say 2 weeks later, worked out 50% dearer, than if the journey had been from London to Newcastle with a return.

When my nephew visited last year, the train journey from Nottingham (about 20 miles from where he lived) was about £18, if he'd travelled from his nearest station, Alfreton (about 3 miles) it was £54:eek:

Run a random number generator programme, close your eyes, stop it and that's your price. I'm sure that's how station staff work out the prices.

Seriously, though, I can't help you with trains but give me a shout if you want any local knowledge for when you get here.

I've found thetrainline.com very useful when I have queries. They draw their info from all the companies instead of having to go to various websites to get the info yourself. Also better than phoning national ralil enquiries who seem to give out as much bad info as they do good.

Plus you can go to the station armed with the details of what you want, (you can be sure they will try to con you with something more expensive).

One other tip: do a bit of research, it can sometimes be cheaper to buy tickets for portions of the journey than one set for the overall journey.

As said before you don't have to register to use trainline.com, and if you do you don't need to register a card until you actually buy. Good Luck.

Actually on thetrainline checking times can be done without registering, but you do have to register to check prices - you don't give any financial info though unless you go on to buy tickets.

Have you ever considered flying there, as it's and inland flight you wont need to go through so much security, had a look at some prices, think if you can shop around you might be able to get a better deal, easy jet had one price of only £10.99 single fair, i never tried puttting in a return fair not sure on taxes either.

Might be worth looking into and compairing the prices with rail fares

Here's the link i found out that price from and yep it will depend dates, i just put in any ole date
