Okay Ken, aaaaah.
The weather must really be getting better. You're the second forum user who's managed to peel themselves away from the computer long enough to take wildlife snaps.
We're gonna need another section in the KT soon.
I've just seen the very rare appearance of my flat-mate emerging from semi-hibernation to get a cup of tea.
Sorry, can't post a photo. You're not allowed X rated material on an open forum.

Ikeaplus, trust me, you really do not want one of those tree rats. They drive me crazy in the garden, digging up my bulbs, chewing through the plastic lids of the feed bins, and generally making a nuisance of themselves. They steal eggs from songbird's nests.
One day a tree came down in the Park. The mother and baby hit the road. Mum died leaving the baby, which still had it's eyes shut - so I shot it, right?
Of course not. I fed it with a pendropper every 2 hours. I carried it everywhere in a peg apron. I tucked it up with a hot wheat bag at night. As he grew older he shredded my net curtains. He bit the cat... and me. He chewed the curtain rails. He chewed through any exposed wires. We ran most of them through plastic conduits, but he still got at them. He got into the fish tank and went for a swim. That was after he chewed through the wires to the pump and heater/thermostat. I don't know how he didn't get killed. We called him Lucky! He went up the chimney and sat on the roof for a day, until we borrowed a ladder to get him down. We put him out in the aviary then, and after a few days opened the hatch so he could come and go as he pleased. I last saw him heading across to the woods in the company of another squirrel much to my relief. It's probably his offspring that raid my garden now. They have no fear of humans. He probably told them I was a soft touch.

OMG! Maybe I don't want one after all - and you called him Lucky! LOL!
I have heard about squirrels trapped in lofts doing a LOT of damage - it would ruin me as I keep my stock up there!

I have a statement written by said squirrel which he wishes i read out:D
I, the squirrel in question wish to defend myself against these outrageous accusations. Firstly it is quite obviously animalism to call me a tree rat, i am a squirrel. Secondly i wish to complain about these bulbs dragonmist plants in the areas where i wish to dig, i am sure she does this deliberately and whats with putting plastic lids on the feed bins? she is just trying to make life difficult for me... it takes hours to chew through those lids...she is just being mean makin me work for my feed:( Yes i admit i do steal eggs but after all it is Easter....:D
I also have a statement from the squirrel that was kindly looked after by dragonmist...
Thank you dragon lady for looking after me when my mommy died, i am so sorry my manners were not up to scratch but i did not havea father figure to teach me how to belch effectively or light my own farts.... i apologise for your net curtains and all the other damage i was in a terrible place at that time... rest assured i will reimburce you for all the damage once i get a store set up on ebid and auction my nuts...... your sincereley, the squirrel:D

It is with great sadness that I have to announce that said baby squirrel passed away peacefiully last night. A short burial service was conducted by my next door neighbour who had been kind enough to provide temporary accomodation, it was attended by his 9 year old daughter who was very upset.
The latest news is that his baby brother/sister has now appeared and is wandering around the garden!

Unfortunately grey squirrels get mange and ringworm amongst other nasties. The one in the picture was a very young one, probably about 3 weeks old, so not fully weaned. Possibly it's Mum has been hit by a car, or killed by a cat or dog.

Dont know if this works or not, as we dont have any wild life creatures where I live, so never tried it.
To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Liverdodo, I have tried cayenne pepper and pepper dust. It didn't work. In the good old days of Windsor Safari Park, I even tried dried lion and tiger poo. The squirrels didn't care, though it did keep the cats away. I now have wire netting over the bulbs, covered with a compost mulch. That stops the perishers from digging the bulbs up.

I had two dreams of this poor little squirrel last night.
I think I must have woken then gone back to the dream as things were different in the second one.
In both cases the little squirrel was dead.
In the first dream it was in a cage hanging from a metal bar by its tail. The tail was all skinny and shriveled up.
In the second dream it was laying by the side of the cage, and I touched it and its head fell off.
