Depends on HOW much your planning on selling? If you list 100's then Yes definately as it costs NOTHING to list And only 2% on final sale.........But it might take a wee while to get back your Initial money outlay...Like I said it depends on what you are selling.....Remember you can afford to sell it cheaper on here becuase of the No fees outlay.....#
Ask your self How much would The other side cost me to List this stuff? Over and over again? Again it depends this is not a Fast selling site so Are you Happy to list and forget about things until a sale or do you require a fast turnabout? Me I Use BOTH sites I have started to list a lot more on here but if I need a quick Buck then I list on the Dark side...
You ve bid on one of my items ?
Also note the Forum is VERY quiet today Being Easter!

Hi PremierSelection
You sound like ME when I first joined here - amazed there was another auction site on the web and raring to get selling here.
But I have been trying to sell here for four months now and have maybe sold half a dozen items in that time. Things move slowly here - its dominated by big store holders, most of whom dont buy much they are just here to sell. The casual Buyer/Sellers, IMHO the mainstay of an auction site are not coming here yet.
If you are a BULK seller say 1000 + listings all of low value <£5 Ebid seems to work. You get a reasonable sales turnover as long as you advertise your store externally YOURSELF. The no fees bit works a treat and Platinum membership is for you for sure.
However if you are just selling say 5-50 items I would beware of signing up for platinum membership just yet. Maybe try Silver for a few weeks and see if your stuff sells here first.
Good luck and welcome to Ebid
thanks that was very useful, and all the other comments. I sell lots of differant things and so im hopeing i can try and sell quickly so ebid may not work for me. I want to join the platinum membership before everyone discovers this and then the price goes up!
Im going to get listing then!!

To me the original question doesn't really have meaning OP. Each site has a different use. I'd recommend using both. If you have a lot of stuff put around an 1/8th on Eb*y, 7/8ths here. Use the stuff you have listed on Eb*y to push people here (there are lots of methods).
I'd snap up the platinum membership if I was you. I think I paid back the cost in a month so now I do genuinely list for free. I always use a gallery picture so I pay a small percentage when I sell but I could sell for free. Traffic is increasing and sales with it!

2265 Actually! Hi Kedo More good advice.
I was sceptical at first (Took me 2 months to get any sale at all BUT when I started looking in the forums for advice etc then My sales started to take of...Put the flyers in with any thing you sell on Ebay.IT WORKS I've had customers from ebay at least come and have a look....Some are now buying

Hi, the buddy point auction are run by ebid management on the front page.
I think the platinum life membership is on offer at the moment for around £95, or at least it was last week. The best thing to do is to start listing your stock here and also some on E*ay, each time you send an item out to an e*ay customer put a flier in telling them you have moved to ebid.
Put a buddy link in your emails asking people to join from that link.
Also If you still have email addresses of your old e*ay customers send them a quick mail saying you are listing here and asking them to pop over and look at your store.
All these things help.
Welcome to Ebid :D

I'm interested in this part of your post crusales? In my experience the 'big store holders' are also big EBID shoppers and a good source of repeat trade. I spend way more here than on feebay and would spend more if some gaps in the market were covered.

Cheers Crusales, I apprecate your words or worldly wisdom and continued support and, if truth be told, I have to admit that eBid IS far superior to eBay in most ways - this site is the cornerstone to our future ebidding, ebuying and eselling dynasties. OK, I gotta go bargain hunting now - it's the holidays, shops are shut, eBid's open... then I'm off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz.... (our Easter matinee movie, apparently).

And when that Balentyne guys says

Money in the bag G&M go for it.
Shame on you! I think you mean Bannatyne and 'all the chicks on the KT' most certainly don't think Gazza is 'hot'. In his defence, he and his supporting cast have kept this place going really well but would you really INVEST?

8th April 2007, 08:47 PM
LOL its a good question Nykmedia, I also think they do a stunning job technically running this place, but I am at a loss to understand why its not more successful.
Here's my little theory -
Financial success relies on income and profitability
Income comes from 2% of some of the sales, store fees and added extras
Profitability comes from ensuring that the income is greater than the outgoings - spend the balance on advertising rather than pay the tax man ;)
As a general rule of thumb, I was taught that you'll average £1 per person per year that passes your window. My first 'shop' was in a village of 15,000 people and the above estimate was shockingly close, so I have never had any reason to doubt it. How many members are there on eBid? :) I wonder if I can work out my own average sales rate here? I'm away to check now. Sad, but true LOL

Ive sold on ebay ok they get more coverage at the moment than ebid but ebid is still a site a lot of people dont know exists. i didn't until my sister in law told me about it. I'm newish to selling on ebid but my sales have come on really well in the last month i think it will take time but in the end ebid is as good as if not better in a lot of ways compared to ebay and the people on ebid are a lot nicer .the kitchen table for example is excellent for just getting your grouches out of your system .we all moan as like me you come from ebay and you were used to having loads of sales but those sales cost a fortune taken into consideration ebid is the better choice with free listing .i left ebay for that reason i was selling loads but in the end the only people that did any good from my sales was ebay with listing fees and there percentage of the fvf i was loosing out big time. so I'm sticking with ebid you couldn't pay me enough to go back and sell on ebay . so well done boys and keep up the excellent job your doing with ebid

I've never seen any advertising for eBid. I think it has got to where it is today mainly by word of mouth. There are lots of members on eBid who work really hard at advertising the site.
I sell on both sites to avoid the 'all the eggs in one basket' problem. I mention eBid whenever I can (without getting a slap!) on the Ebay forums including the PowerSellers board and eBayers generally either have (a) never heard of eBid, (b) think there's no buyers here, or (c) are already selling here - oh, and there's also a small minority that think this is the place to sell fakes.
Hopefully a national advertising campaign is in the works as part of the eBid revamp - fingers crossed! :)

Years ago, for those of you who remember, there used to be a picture of Gazza ( a very cute one) as his avatar on the forums. Can't remember if Mark had one. I don't think so, think he wants to remain invisible. But it was taken off eventually. I don't know why, because I think it gave Ebid more of a "human" face and that's one of Ebid's strengths as compared to E*ay.

Be careful - YouTube is addictive! I have to limit my time there otherwise I'd get no work done! My favourite one is where the bride and groom had dancing lessons to do the finale of Dirty Dancing as the first dance at their wedding

Some people think it is cheesy, but I think it is romantic - nice to see it the Brits being a bit eccentric, there's too many cynics around these days LOL!

alo PPPay (or whatever its called) how much does that cost?
sorry asking so many questions
The major down-sides to PPPay are that you can only spend the money coming on-line (no withdrawal facilities). Also when your buyer uses it they will be charged 49p for the privilige. (I've not used it myself, but this is what I have gathered from reading the forums).
One on-line alternative if you are selling to Britain only is eggpay. It is free and easy to use (unlike PPPay).
Yes it is much friendlier here, I had a taste of the muppets on the "other side" yesterday. I had been looking for a "Darling Buds Of May" DVD that I had missed from the Daily Mail. While browsing I found a blatant fee avoidance (penny auction, with about £1.90 P&P). Being against fee avoidance I reported it and got the reply that they only take complaints from people actually involved in the auction.
I put a thread up posing the question why do we bother reporting things when Feebay don't take any notice. Only for the pond-life to emerge and try to justify their excessive postage, despite me not complaining about that.

I haven't had any problems withdrawing my cash from PPPay. My biggest problem is with people trying to pay via this method and then not verifying their accounts. It is a fairly easy way to trade online using PPPay but you MUST remember to:
1) Make sure the account is verified
2) Log in to accept payments when you receive them - this isn't done automatically, and
3) Remember to check the 'pay directly from my PPPay account' when paying for npurchases, which is NOT the default setting, otherwise it debits your card and may charge you a fee for doing so.
That's my experiences with PPPay - it's cheaper than PayPal for small items but you can't accept the money people send you until they verify their card details, for obvious security reasons.

Eb*Y have a massive cover picture on a computer magazine this week.I can,t remember the name of it but it,s on sale in tesco's .apparently the mag contains articles about eb*y. I was half tempted to buy it but it cost £5.99. I've never paid that for a magazine in my life! If I was going to spend that much I would spend it on chocolate.LOL

I've also withdrawn money from my pppay account to my bank account a few times. Have to say though, that I have had to prod them along to do it in a timely manner...but you can do it. Downside is that there is a minimum fee of 75p.

Ive had three people want to pay via pppay and each time i couldn't receive the payment so i had to contact the buyers to cancel there payment and in the end was paid through paypal it seems a lot of buyers object to having the penny test done on there accounts this is why they prefer paypal. Ive spent all day taking my pppay option off my site as it has caused me nothing but trouble. i dont know if anyone else out there as had the same problem?

not to complain, understanding ebid is new in the us, but all i have is lookers and no buyers, even offered some for international delivery, but that doesnt work because of the shipping rates and customs.
To date this site has not made me anything, even lowered some pricing and still nothing.
I do not think it will do well in the US, unless there is some advertising done here, Ive seen nothing going on here.
But then nothing going on on feebay either cannot compete with large chain stores or powersellers, selling for 99 cent bids.
Nowdays its how cheap can i get it, instead of people trying to make the most they can without being overpriced.
My opinion is neither site works 100% well, here its cheaper, there more traffic, but nothing, if they like your item, they will watch it while they hunt for it cheaper, thats whats frustraing on feebay, you think you may have a sale, but it doesnt move from the watcher to be a buyer, that is so frustrating, even worse is when you remember how much you paid for the listing, which is a loss now. So i stick to it since i paid to be platnium

Hi sandstormatrix,
Don't give up. Ebid is really growing. Hope you don't mind me suggesting that that you increase the font size on your listings as I think they are a little too small and hard to read. :-)
