How would you react if you found out your father had a child with someone else 30 years back and that you had a half sister or brother that you didnt know about?
Just curious

Similar situation mate...... found out when I was 26 that I have a half brother somewhere.... that my "mother" gave up for adoption when he was born  Didn't find out in a nice way about it either
WANTED to try and contact him at first... but thought better of it as I didn't want to upset my dad - and it would upset him big time - he is worth a lot more to me than a half brother I don't know.
It's a funny old world ay! lol
Is it a family secret that someone blurted out through anger/similar emotional outburst - or is it a dad coming clean scenario?

Its quite common hun ... sharon found this out about 4 years ago - a brother she thought was an uncle.
My dad casually told me a few years back i have a brother and sister i didnt know i had , but i was not exacly indulged with my Qs ... basically it was a statement and any further info i could whistle for.
So ... all in all, i took it with a pinch of salt.
NO CHOICE REALLY.

In todays times im surprised that people are surprised by things like this, id guess there are more people with siblings they dont know they have , than those without. SADLY.

When you don't have any control over it, there's not much you can do really.... but you kind of go through the whole spectrum of emotions ! it felt weird knowing I have an older brother out there somewhere... you kind of assume responsibility when you are the oldest and it felt a bit odd that I could have had a big brother ! Very curious about how his life turned out too.... I'd like to know that he is OK and had a good life, but I would feel bad if he didn't... if you know what I mean, so for now I am happy to stick my head in the sand to a certian degree.
It's very confusing... I was fortunate enough to have a grandma that answered questions and filled the blanks in. When it was blurted out me and my sister were just kind of "oh ! alrighty then" at first... and then as time goes by you get curious, then feel bad that he was given away, but glad in a way because you may not have been around otherwise !!
Goes a bit like:-

I've always known that I had a half brother who was adopted as a baby, my mum made no secret of it. I have spent all my life trying to trace him, with no luck. Basically given up now. My mum is no longer with us, and neither are two other brothers. Nevertheless, there is still a tiny hope he may contact.
