Hi I've just arrived here as a fugitive shop seller from Greedbay, as I suspect many are. Haven't had time yet to sort out any listings, but if you want a quick preview of my stuff have a look at my website http://www.wiz.to/art.

Be interested to hear your comments.

Hi Ken and all...

Also from the other side! Have had a look at your site - I love it and have ear-marked some goodies already...I wish you all the best with your venture.

I am as I said, also coming over from the other side, to open our shop on ebid (beginning on Monday!) alongside setting up our website www.silksandcrystals.co.uk.

I've just come over. Still got the FeeBay store open though as I have no idea what sales will be like over here. How has it been for the rest of you?

I'm literally having to start all over again after a long period of illness, so it's going to be a hard slog either way...

Good Luck..

I'm gutted about eBay. Last year I took 6 months of work due to ill health.

In Feb, I invested in a huge amount of stock. My plan was to sell on eBay, build up my customer base and give up work this year.

OK on eBay I was not making a fortune, but I made enough to cover my fees, postage, wholesale stock and a little extra every month. The little extra is what mattered.

I am broken hearted with eBay. If I told you how much stock I hold, you'd cry for me.

I was in to eBay for the long term. No get rich schemes, just sell my items at a great price and make a bit on top.

I only sell craft items, not electronic gadgets or designer clothes where the money is (real of fake - send or dont send).

Crafting is my passion, my hobby and the one thing that I can advise people about, giving them a true and honest answer.

I really do wish you luck and all other sellers on here. Its going to be slow, but is going to be better.

Well thanks for the big welcome. You echo my sentiments exactly - I love what I do and I would never want to do anything else. I won't be squeezed out by the likes of Ebay. From past experience, passion and sheer determination always pay off in the end!

Hi again Tarryn- welcome to eBid. We're a much friendlier bunch over here ;-)

I too love what I do and I was getting more and more disillusioned with feeBay, then they hiked their fees and gave me the excuse I needed to look and list elsewhere! Thanks goodness I did, as I probably would have quit by now...

I was with eBay for about 3-4 years first selling off just bits from the house, like books and toys (still have boxes sitting to get listed) and then I went self employed last year selling basically fantasy giftware and some jewellery all new items.

Invested most of my savings in the business and have been living off the rest as every penny in profit was put straight back in. Had just got to the stage were 2 things seemed to be going right.
1. it looked like I might be able to start taking a small wage for myself each month (I mean small but at the mo every little helps) and
2. I finally found a supplier for a line I been wanting to carry for ages.

Then the eBay announcements and everything is up in the air. Don't know for certain what will happen now but I'm determined not to let the buzzards (sp? :p ) get me down! and if there is any way I can turn this around it will happen, already had a couple of buyers saying they will follow me and I have a direct link in my eBay shop (slowly being closed down) to my eBid one.
Spent the last few days looking at hosting packages too (think I'm going skelly-eyed :D) but I'm sure that with a bit of effort we make eBid every bit as popular if not more so than the other place!

I was on eBay for a few years too. I used to be a powerseller but the rising fees and falling market did me in. I closed my store (yet again) last weekend. I'd forgotten I had an acct. here. I just started listing some prints and will get the originals up after.

The best thing we can all do is publicise this place as much as possible, and look to buy here for things we want as well, sort of self supporting, before looking for things on Greedbay.

Hi everyone, I have been on ebay for about 2 years now, I still have my shop there until I can get up and running here, then its good bye to ebay, I will hopefully bring over some of my regular customers to ebid, I have to admit it's taken me a while to get to grips with the way you do things over here, sold a few items the first week, I was well chuffed, but had to ask the buyer for help, she wanted postal discount and I had no idea how to do it, to be honest I still dont know how to do it, how do you send out invoices? hi hipchick (waves like mad) you are the only person I saw on ebay, I am into card making and scrapbooking too, anyway its 7.10am I am going to make a nice cuppa and some toast,

Hi Ken

I am yet another e-Bay refugee, I sell Art Materials (thought this might be of interest to you!)

I have had an e-Bay shop for two years now and it started off very quickly, in fact, I now have premises and a good customer base off the back of e-bay so I shouldn't bite the hand that feeds!!

My e-Bay business has thrived until recently when the greedy so-and-so's put shop fees up and I had to retract a lot of my more expensive stock from the shop to cut costs. I have a new website under construction at the moment and it is due to go live in about 2 weeks.

I, like so many others, decided to search for a new outlet and found e-bid - so here goes nothing!! Hell, its worth a try, don't you think?

Anyway, if you need art materials, I'm your girl. All my art materials are at least 20% cheaper than retail and my canvases are at least 40% cheaper. I hold stocks of Winsor & Newton, Daler Rowney, Pro-Arte, Chroma, Reeves, Loxley and many more top branded goods.

Feel free to contact me for a quotation!

Good Luck on e-bid....by the way, your paintings are lovely!

Hi Ken. What a superb web site and great items too. I too have moved to ebid from eBay due to their hiking up of fees mainly. I still have my shop there for the moment until I have transferred everything over to ebid but it will take ages to do. All I wanted was to sell many of items that I have collected over the years to fans and collectors. I just kept collecting mainly on music and related items and it all just took over. Now having had the items stored carefully for many years I decided to put a lot up for sale. Well ... apart from my ABBA collection that is ... although collecting ABBA and solo/related items I lost track a little and duplicated some items hence the reason I am now cataloguing my collection and selling the duplicate ABBA/related items (although the ABBA autographs are not duplicates I am just down sizing a little on that bit) to make a little money and reinvest in ABBA items I don't have.

Ebid seems fine to me, its all rather exciting. The only downside is starting all over again and having nearly 850 positive feedback the other side and having worked so hard for that, being at zero again seems an uphill struggle. However I will be advertising ebid on my new web sites soon to give ebid support and spread the word that there is a better alternative for buyers and sellers.
All the best.
Kathryn

Hey Ken I liked Stalking Heron and Yellow Buoy Blue Boat! Reminded me of a Japanese Hockney, or that American guy who did Nighthawks whose name I always forget.

I paint too. Or I used to until I finally admitted I really hated it. Now I take photos instead - and the funny thing is I spend as much time messing around with them later as I ever used to with a canvas :)

Right now I've taken six hours over one photo of a ring I want to sell (I'm going to start a jewellery store here) and I'm not quitting till the photo looks exactly like the ring.

Hi everyone - yet another refugee here - altho I am have one last stab at Ebay for 10 days then I think I'll come here for good!

It is very encouraging to read your comments and I hope that Ebid will become more and more popular.

I have only recently started selling my cards online to try and get them out of Cornwall and into the rest of the country!!

I will certainly try and find my supplies here first and support the cause. The fees at the other place meant I was making a loss rather than a profit!!

Here's wishing you all sucess here!

Hello everyone,
I have come over from eBay as well and will be getting everything on eBid before long, eBay have now put up their charges to the extent that I am virtually giving things away, what a rip off!
But until I get some feedback here, I have to stay with eBay as I have a lot of stuff to sell and get rid of, after shutting down my small business.
But eBid is so differant, that it will take some time to get used to it all and the differant way of working.
It's all a bit depressing really! But nice to have someone to let of steam with.

Hi, I am also a refugee from ebay. I sell mostly aloe vera based skin care & natural mineral makeup. I have been on ebay for about 2 years , but with all the fees going up, I am fed up. I have already listed quite a few items on ebid & plan to work on opening an ebid store. I don't have my own website, so how do I let let previous buyers know I am swithing to ebid. I don't know if I can put a message in my ebay store listing or not. I am planning on closing my ebay store after I get one set up & running on ebid.

My ebay store will be closing in about two weeks when the remaining items expire. Too much fraud over there is frightening buyers away.

"how do I let let previous buyers know I am swithing to ebid" - you can put a signature in your end of auction e-mails to your Ebay buyers or when you send them an invoice or dispatch notificication.

If you don't mind me asking - did you offer any incentives to get them to sign up to eBid?

I always send out slips with my FeeBay orders and follow up with an email link, but i don't think any hve taken me up yet - although I must say I can't complain as i have had excellent sales here so far.

I'd love to get some more buyers over here though!

I don't sell on ebay anymore, CC, so I don't have the opportunity to entice new ebidders over that way.

However, I do still buy via ebay (if I can't find what I want here on eBid :( ) occasionally, and when I email the Seller to say payment has been made .... the signature part of my email ALWAYS includes a link to eBid via the buddy link referral ;)

I'm also on eBay but moving items into eBid as well. My store links appear on my website www.thenotionshop.com

I'm still figuring things out, too. But so far it seems rather user friendly. Except that I can't figure out how to promote my new store on the eBid site itself. Can anyone tell me how to go about becoming a "Featured Store" or appearing as one of the 18 or 19 stores in this category?

madelaine
24th February 2008, 08:15 AM
You become a featured store on a rotation - so long as you have items listed, you will appear sometimes on the Right of the home page and sometimes under "featured store" in the category you have put your store under.

ebid is not keen on links to your own shopping site being on their site (for obvious reasons!)

tompkins40
26th February 2008, 03:51 PM
I did this a little while ago (moved from EBay) because I was only selling low value items and it just got so it wasnt worth it the listing fees, etc.

This is slower in some respects, but if that doesn't matter to you, just list for free, buy some low value items to get feedback, and Bob's your whatnot.

It's pretty friendly on the boards and you can get help with most problems.

Best of luck!

Hi, I'm sort of a refugee from 'that other place'....things have been so quiet lately that I had to start looking for alternatives and someone suggested ebid so I thought I'd stop by here and say hello!

I mostly sell paint your own bisque and odd bits and bobs these days although I used to sell a lot of my own hand painted ceramics. All individual one of a kind tube lined designs. Its got now that I don't make much any more. Due to circumstances at home I can't get out to fairs or rallies any more and although I used to sell to all over the world a few years ago, the growth of 'that other place' more or less means that my items got lost in the sea of mass produced products. Hopefully I will be able to add some of my own work here later in the week....I just wish I knew wish category I should list in.

kengillam
26th May 2008, 02:52 PM
Hi Grannie Annie welcome to eBid I see you've already added a signature link for us nosey. I would fill in some info on Your About Me Page. Perhaps buy a few things to kickstart your feedback over here ( I have some nice cheap prints ;)) have a look at my listings to see how I dealt with the zero feedback problem when I started.

Then email all YOUR (not Greedbay's they are a venue, they keep telling us) customers, and tell them where you are, give them a link to your listings. Grab the records while you can and from paypal records as well. That should keep you busy for a bit, and shout if you need a hand. Additional body parts incur a small fee ;)

Thaks Ken, I'm working through it all slowly...sadly there's only 24 hours in a day and I do have other things to do as well. It's so frustrating having to start out from scratch again....like the buying to build feedback. I have to get a whole load more listings done before I can start emailing customers!!

The offer of a hand is much appreciated - I doubt I could afford anything more than that anyway!! ;)

Hello,
I am just starting out over here and not quite sure of the system, but will persevere until I get it right. I had not thought of buying to gain feedback. I shall have to have a look at my favourite sections. Best of luck to all
