What exactly happens if you put someone on "ignore"?

if you put someone on ignore you dont see their posts on any threads when you are logged in
it just says so and so has posted but you have chosen to ignore so their post doesnt show
however if someone has quoted their post in their reply you get to see their original post

edit to clarify
having said all that
if you are not logged in at all you see all the posts lol
