I was reading this morning an article headed Girl given major radiation overdose, Further reading I was shocked to find that it had been given not once but 17 times. Human error!! balderdash !! Something sadly wrong when this sort of mistake, can be allowed to continue. Her family must be distraught.
Where's their checking system been. !! I was with a family member during sessions at my hospital and the details before implementation were checked and rechecked by at least 4 staff members on each occasion.
A top cancer hospital has launched an investigation after it gave a teenage patient a massive, potentially fatal, overdose of radiation.
Lisa Norris, 15, was given the overdose 17 times at the Beatson Oncology Centre in Glasgow where she was treated for a brain tumour.
Human error has been blamed for the mistake, the effects of which are not yet known.
Lisa's parents, from Girvan in Ayrshire, said doctors had warned that the overdoses could prove fatal.
Staff at the hospital were said to be extremely distraught over the case. It is understood the girl was given the overdose at each radiation session - a total of 17 times.
Her father Ken, 50, told the Daily Record newspaper: "Doctors say at best she could land in a wheelchair or be paralysed, but at worst this could be fatal. If they can do this to Lisa, they can do this to anyone."
