I disagree. The first thing is to make sure that the site works properly - this includes being able to navigate easily, ensuring that all the automating scripting works exactly as it should and guaranteeing that the servers can handle increased demand. There have been problems with all these points within the not too distant past.

Advertising comes quite a way down the path and should only be carried out when everything about the site is working properly and as expected.

Then it is important.

But all this has been hashed and re-hashed on far too many occasions. At least now things are working almost as they should be.

Perhaps if someone wants to give G&M a large stack of cash they'd start with the advertising. . . . . . .
