hey never knew about this but I say that it sounds like a great idea. Ebay would never think of anything like this but it could be a good way to attract publicity to ebid ;)

It could be a good way of spreading awareness if nothing else. I've sent the 'email your friends' thingy to most of the people in my address book- which includes a fair few ex ebay customers of mine. I don't expect them all to join- but i know a few have visited, and a lot more people will have heard of EBID by now :D
