...she asks for an extra 5% for using pppay.com.
Q. what would you do?
(I, for the record, am freakin' livid...)

Was it stated in the auction listing? if so, not much you can do other than pay it or ask for a refund.
If it was'nt in the listing tell 'em it's their tough titty.

I'm of the "tough titty" opinion too if it's not in the listing...

If it's not in the listing, they can't charge afterwards. That's changing their TOS, and a breach of contract.

totally off topic, sorry for attempted hijack..
i won a 60 minute auction, five bottles of suncream/lotion/oils for a quid
because im a bit wierd, i offered them more money for the items, as i felt the sale was unfair to them
i received the items this morning, one is out of date, another has had the use by date rubbed off (which is a kiddie one - so i dont want to use it, if its out of date)
now do i just let it go as a live and learn experience or should i ask for a % of money back and would you ask for a refund of part of the original postage as well (let alone the costs of raising a postal order)?
i hate having to deal with stuff like this, but i feel particularly annoyed because of the extra i paid for the items out of goodwill.
incase anyone is interested in the outcome of the above.....

charlie
how badly do you want the item?
it all comes down to if its still worth the money including the extra fee
if you can do without it, then refuse to complete the transaction.
is it on epay?
would making a formal complaint/reporting her to the site make a difference?
i would be peed off too
...and out of interest, what would her costs be for receiving through pppay anyway?

What a rip-off to both of you.
For the extra fee, I would definitely tell her tough-titty and if she won't send the item, then give her a well-worded neg to make her head spin.
As for the out of date stuff, I totally agree, it isn't suitable for the purpose for which it was sold under the Sale of Goods Act. The level of sunscreen would technically be compromised, and as such you would be applying a simple moisturiser to the kids (as that's all sunscreen is without the SPF after all!), which leads to burns and the possibility of skin cancer. So, definitely go for a refund.
We might be getting more buyers in here, but it sounds as though not all of them are the type we need to make Ebid work :-(

are you sure you dont mean sellers?
*laughs*
incase you and emma didnt see the update of what happened about the sunstuff, here is a copy of the post i made yesterday in a different thread
i am right now really angry with a seller
my cheeks are flushed (i can feel them) and i want to do something between shouting and crying, or both
:o
i just cant believe some people
i won a 60 min auction for five bottles of sun stuff, for one pound
i sent them an amount that im too embarrassed to print here (pm if you want to know)
...as a gesture of goodwill, as i felt the price i won the auction at was too low.... yeah i know, im a sucker.
i received the stuff and one bottle is out of date, the other has had its expiry date rubbed off.
so i have just spoken to the seller who tried to convince me they were fine to use after the expiration date. well stuff that.
i have been very polite, more details and name of seller available to all who wish to see it by pm.
all i wanted was for them to cover the postage to return the item and the amount i paid for the bottle
they offered me 60p refund
i told them what i wanted, but they refuse to cover postage
i know im only going to be out of pocket by only a couple of quid, but i can imagine the next thing being they havent received it, or the refund bouncing
i am so upset by their lack of goodwill in return for mine
oh well...
excuse me while i swear a bit
ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff ffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.....
:(
i have calmed down and got over it now.
i received a refund of overpaid postage from a different seller today
i would never have noticed that i had been overcharged but out of honesty the seller refunded me. so my faith in sellers has been restored.
there are decent people out there!
i have actually had very few problems in buying from people and have bought hell of a lot over the years from here and the other place.
i seriously dont understand how some people live with themselves.
