Good Story makes you think how much industry wastes to conform to Fashion Tradition !
I have recently finished working for a Household name electronics manufacturer (Philips) I always had to wear the standard shirt and tie and even a Jacket on the hottest days?
Now i work for a small family run company i can wear what i like (sensibility prevails) No ties but smart sensible career wear. My main customers are Architects and Designers, they have been dressing down for years !!!!
Any comments ?

When I worked for Woolworths I used to have heated debates with my boss about how sexist the uniform was:
Women: blouse, skirt, tights (COMPULSARY)
Men: shirt, trousers, dark socks
I was annoyed that women were MADE to wear tights and weren't allowed to wear trousers instead of a skirt. I pointed out that the company uniform policy was sexist, and ALL staff members should be offered the choice of skirt &/or trousers.
He used to laugh at me.

I think it is okay to wear a uniform for work supplied by them as long as it is suitable, wearing your own clothes often means I have to go out and buy them for work cost's me money
I work in an office and am allowed to wear what I want, in another office I used to work there were a lot of people and you could always pick out the one's I afraid to say that did not take too much care of there appearance, so there are good point's and bad

I worked at woolworths for about 3 years where I lived, I totally agree with what your saying, just after I left the uniform changed and they are allowed to wear trousers now .

LOL!! Same here! And they got warm fleeces....
I should have said: I still flouted the rules and refused to wear tights. My boss couldn't do anything about it.

Wow,
A fellow Ex Woolies who doesn't mind mentioning that they worked there !
I was a Saturday boy in 1979 and made to Trainee manager in 1983 !
Very Happy days ! I remember When the Bosses used to visit from HQ to Shrewsbury Store 186 & Wolverhampton (312/7)
Remember stocktake with slips & Seasonable promo's. One buyer told me off for displaying a "Mundane" counter end of Rowntree's confectionary......"It should be so exciting it should cause a Riot !"
2 Weeks Later Shrewsbury played Man City and 800 Fans Rioted through the Store causing ££££ Thousands of pounds of damage. I wrote back to the Buyer that this was possibly caused by my new End Display.................................
I Got the Biggest Bollocking of my life for that !
Happy Days

I actually enjoyed working at Woolies, shame the pay wasn't good enough for me to afford to stay there :(
