I'm into handcrafted jewellery big time and have been for the past God knows how many years now. I'm beginning to experiment with wire wrapping within the jewellery side of things.

Apart from that I've done cross stitching since secondary school but I'm finding the fine stitching hard on the eyes now. Love rug making too.

Fancy trying Candle making and maybe some soap making................. if I ever find the time these days

How about you lot! what takes your fancy?

i am into all sorts of crafts, card making at the moment

i do cross stitch, rug making, and knitting, mainly in the winter on those long dark nights!!
painting, clay modelling, jewelry making (mainly kids stuff ), bead weaving, and sewing i tend to do during the summer months

i used to make candles years ago, and would love to have a go at soap making

i have allsorts on the go, quite a few cross stitch things that are nearly finished must get round to finishing them, one day  i have run out of oomph at the moment tho, keep sitting on my computer reading forums!!

Hi I like making silver jewellery, soaps, candles, mosaics, cards, pottery, woodcarving, sewing, watercolour and oil painting, drawing with pencil and coloured pencil, modeling and almost anything to do with art.

As far as the jewellery goes I love being able to use soldering torches, the only problem is having to pickle all the work afterwards. And using gemstones is great too. The only problem is the cost of hallmarking. So I tend to stick to small pieces as anything over 7.75grams must be hallmarked.

Soaps are fun and easy to make. The only problem is that unless you can afford to certify them you can not legally sell them. Certification can cost upwards of £200 each formula. And even if you only change it by adding petals you have to pay out £200 again.

At the moment mostly I do cross stitch and knitting when I get the chance - which doesn't seem very often nowadays.

I like knitting toys and most of the cross stitch I do now is old cover kits and cards that I've been given and/or collected. I used to give them to my mum for her charity shop, but since she retired earlier this year I decided I'll do them for my son's school Xmas Fayre as well as making some little gift boxes.

I also do painting/drawing and all sorts of "making and doing" with the kids.

And of course there's always fancy dress costumes that are required.

How fantastic!!
Hi everyone and thanks to Hely for pointing me here.
I do loads of different crafts to keep me off the streets!!!
I suppose card-making is my BIG love! including all the different aspects of it, embossing, sizzix, iris folding, vellums, chalks, peel-offs you name it.
Watercolouring is also a favourite and I get that mixed in with the cards too.
Cross-stitch and tapestry, although I have one or two things needing to be finished, but that's the beauty of it, you can just pick up from when you left off.
I used to knit and make clothes, but the arthritis gets in the way of doing them now-a-days.
The grandkids keep me busy with jewelery making, painting, making very strange creatures etc.
I have tried my hand at most crafts one way or another and I love the feeling of satisfaction that crafting brings, especially with the knowledge that crafters never make mistakes, it just gets done differently this time!!!
I suppose its a case of if it's there it's used for something!
Yes, crafting is my thang!

Hi Everyone,

I have been doing many different crafts over the years. I started with crochet, then tapestry, embroidery and dressmaking. I had a go at patchwork, knitting and rugmaking. Currently I am doing plaster and stone casting, miniature scenery and building modelling. I create things for model railways, dolls houses and war games.

I love working with different materials and experimenting with different ways to create different pieces and effects. I love the painting (I am ruining most of my clothes by getting paint and glue all over them). I have a room full of bits and pieces that I have kept because I think I can make something out of them.

I also paint the miniature models used in war games, it is one of my sons hobbies but he dosen't like painting them as they are so tiny.

I am happy to have a go at most things. It seems a shame that making things is becoming quite rare these days. It is nice to see this forum and make contact with other like minded people.

Hi everyone!

I too am a rubber stamper/card maker as well as indulging in clay, cross stitch (very rarely), glass etching, candle making, metal embossing, paper making, jewellery making and various other things that I can't even think of now LOL. Basically I like to walk through the craft store and look at *everything* and if something catches my eye, I'll buy it and try it once. If it turns out crap I won't try it again lol.

I have my own line of embossing powders and I'll be posting some on ebid soon!

Hi aries458

How do you do lampworking? Is it very hard? And do you need much equipment?
Sorry, I just saw this...I must be getting feeble minded and forget about this section...LOL
Lampworking is like anything else in art, just practice. You can buy glass rods from many companies in various sizes to get started. There are also many sites that offer tips and instructions that I have found helpful.
A propane torch ( I don't know if you can get the small ones in the UK, I use the ones plummers use for copper pipes a MAPP torch) is the main equipment, along with a beading rod (and here's where I use cheap methods, a welding rod can be used, cheaper than the bead rods recommended!)
A fire proof blanket, (I use a 12x12 tile from a flooring shoppe)
It's an exciting craft once you learn the basics and the things you can make...oooooo, perfume beads/bottles, your own glass beads, etc.
I have not seen much sold on ebay UK, none here, but do a search on bead making or lampworking and you'll soon be drooling on something else to add to your list... :D

here is a site i found, if anyone else is interested:

        I like cross stitching and knitting but if I lose the urge it's cracko. I have been knitting a pair of socks for my daughter for over a year now and still haven't finished them.. but she and her husband have got just about everything so I thought a pair of hand knitted socks would be unique. Well I finished one pair. then they wanted more so after about 8 prs. I guess I just ran out of steam. Then I bought loads of cross stitch material and the cottons and decided to try some small pieces. Now I have about lost interest in that. What should I try next. It has to be something that is small and can be done quickly for I have a short attention span....Keep well everyone.

Hi Crafters. =D>
I like card making in many forms, 8) Parchment, Stamping, Heat embossing, Light embossing, Tea bag folding, Quilling, 3D decoupage, Stenciling, or just collage with scraps.

I make wire flowers and teach Ganutell which is the Maltese craft of decoration.

I make stainedglass windows.

And savage  , a form of napkin craft, silk painting, encaustic art and french bead flowers.
Looking forward to reading about the lampwork beads that Aries does, missed them being on sale, hope you put some more up for sale soon.
I really like most forms of crafting. Its a great way to unwind after a stressful day ](*,)

Hi Hely! Sorry I didn't answer sooner, keep forgetting to check here and when I do, no one has posted for a bit...LOL...I'm away fro the craft section a couple of days and ....WHAM! more posts...
The beads I had up were collected from the Tuscon show I attend in February in Arizona. I make stoneware beads and have been doing much of them this past week to put up on ebid and my web site. Never find enough time to get everything I want done.

Hi Frances! For about 2 years I've been doing the lampworking. My biggest problem is:
I start one project, then onto another, then another...it goes on and on...I get ideas in the middle of the night, wake up, start on them...It's awful!

Thanks for compliment Aries.
I learnt how to make these Maltese flowers a couple of years ago. I have taught a few people and one lady has just been asked to go on the new 24hr hobby & craft show to show people how its done.

Have seen a lot of lamp work beads and have always wondered how to incorperate them into my crafts.

Hope you put some up for sale soon.

I make hand crafted cards.

I can also make cross stitch cards to your specifications. I was commisioned to make one for an 80 year old Granddad on Ebay. So I thought I might try on here. If anyone is interested I could email them a picture of that particular card.

So far on ebid I have sold only one card. I started making them last year during the time I was off work following a car accident. I really enjoy crafts of all kinds and I also do a lot of hand knitting. I have three items on a the moment.

So check out my auction items. Just look up Sanddancer under the crafts section-hand made items.

I'm into rug-making. I mostly use my own designs, "contemporary", etc, but I have found a lot of pictures of Navajo Indian blanket designs on the net, and think I will adapt some of those next.

I also make and repair wooden toys. Some are for my two grand-sons, but most go to a nearby special needs school. I use no screws or nails in these - for obvious resons - and decorate them in enamel paint.

Hi!

I'm a newbie, just joined! :-) Helloooo fellow craftsters! I like sewing clothes and making jewellery! Thing is, I especially like to make stuff of the alternative persuasion, like indie, emo and rockabilly fashions. On other sites I always list using those kind of keywords, as well as "DIY". Does "DIY", as in clothing and jewellry, exist as a culture here, or is it given another name? If anyone has had success selling alternative and handmade fashions or jewellery on here, I would love to here from them!!! :-)

Anyway, lovely to meet you all and be among fellow craft addicts! ;-)

I am interested in lots of crafts - those that I have done, and those I haven't had the time or finance to do yet!!

I love to paint, do tapestry, and cross stitch. I have started making cards using my camera to take the pictures to mount in them, and I like to take pictures not only of the views of Cornwall but also flowers and unusual 'angles' and details of objects etc. This is my main hobby at the moment.

On my wish list is silk painting - but quite an expensive hobby I think!

If you have time to look at the cards I sell here - I'd be interested in others honest opinions and suggestions.

All the best to you all, and happy crafting!

Like many here I have tried practically every craft going..I know this isn't a craft but I even taught myself how to build a website which I also maintain... Then settled into designing machine embroidery as there are some absolutely stunning designs to download plus the ones I design myself...I also design & create feather fascinator and silk flower corsages....Cannot sit on my backside not even to watch TV...must be 'doing' constantly...Just thankful I have an extremely patient, encouraging husband...Mind you he is in his element as he has full control of the TV programs now...

Like fancybits, I have tried every craft under the sun .currently it's gilding. I picked up an antique gilt frame in France and I'm in the process of restoring it, though what I will do with it when it's finished goodness only knows.I made a latex mould of the missing bits and copied them in rubber sealant because plaster of paris wouldn't bend round the contours of the frame. If and when I finish the job I will post a picture, but don't hold your breath!

My daughters + I make jewellery - mostly beading and silver wire.

Middle girl has a commission from an Art Gallery to make for them this summer - so she's v busy.

If there's any interest in buying here - I can put some more kits together for sale - we usually sell most things at summer and Xmas fetes etc and at Shows.

If you are interested, however, leave me a note here of what supplies people want - single items, small groups of beads - assortments, single colour kits, whole beading/jewellery making kits, etc - and I'll see what I can put together.

Any good?

Lately I've been doing lots of cross stitch cards and I'm now selling them, it's great to stitch things that I'd never stitch otherwise like easter or valentine cards. Hoping to sell lots of cards here on ebid soon. Fingers crossed

I was a knitter till I developed arthritis in my fingers, then cross stitch, don't find the time to do as much though as I use too, to busy working and trying to make enough to pay the bills :(
Collected all the mags and now having a sort out, it's amazing how many I found that I was saving till I had the time to read/stitch so far I've got a dozen or so that haven't even been opened.
Must admit though I preferred to do the larger designs rather than cards, not sure why, think it might be the sense of achievement when you put the last stitch in something that's taken months to complete.

hiya, I'm not a very crafty person, I can't draw anything recognisable but I have for the past 2 years been making costume jewellery.
I am pretty much self taught ( with the help of bead mags and the internet)
I also do craft fairs (which can be very hit and miss), and as soon as I get the next one out of the way I intend to list some of my jewellery on here .
I love the friendly atmosphere of this site , unlike the "other " auction site ,everybody seems willing to pull together and help each other.

hi hi guys and gals chubbycherrycherub here just found this..and i would like to say that i make my own hand made vintage style costume jewellery..i have been doing this as a hobbie for about a couple of years now..i have tried in the past to make my own handmade soap but that did not turn out well at all..i have always liked to make and alter things and at present i am revamping my old picture frames well painting them gold and adding new pics to them so that they will go with my new decor in the bedroom..this saving me money on buying new ones.. and giving me more money to spend on e-bid..

Hi...I love painting. I have been painting with oil on canvas (or glass or metal or wood) for over 25 years and have sold my work in the Midwest US. (However, we have friends in England and they always end up with a sample of my newest art.)

I recently learned to airbrush and have been painting children's furniture for local doctors offices.

A friend wrote a children's book and knuckled me into illustrating it. That was fun! That was using watercolor and pastels.

Then I am a quilter. I had just become a powerseller with my quilt supplies store on the "other place" when it seemed good to leave. That store is slowly making its way over here with about 1000 items to upload.

I have also worked in stained glass, done the whole scrapbooking thing until I discovered digital scrapbooking, and tried knitting as a kid and actually stank at that!

And...to start it all off, been a cross stitcher my whole life! Started doing that pre-teen.

So happy to see a bunch of crafters in here!

I will share my ignorance...I do not know what you do with salt dough. I have heard of it, but it makes me think of eating, so I am probably wrong.

And mosaics are interesting. I was into stained glass for a while and did some stepping stones, which are mosaic-like. They are very heavy and made with reinforced concrete. Mosaics on table tops and things like that fascinate me. I have thought of doing it in conjunction with my children's furniture.

hiya, you would be very sick if you ate it,
you shape it in to what you want then cook for a couple of days or untill its solid then you paint it then varnish,
and as long as its not left in humid conditions it will last for years,
the kids love making stuff, i have been into old peoples homes and schools and community centers and letting them make things, i did the varnishing then took them back the week after.

I paint, cross stitch, card make (sometimes), jewellery/beading. Some knitting (but I'm not any good). Gave up on trying to crochet (when the instructor gives up on you, you know you're no good) and origami (once again, I gave up - I can't even make a paper airoplane!). Hopefully when I get rid of my overflowing hoarded stock on here I can start selling some of my handmade pieces.

What a variety of talents! And most crafters like a number of different crafts. I am no different. I love sewing, especially toys, teds are on the top of that list. Knitting, crochet, any form of embroidery. I dabble at cardmaking, occasional bit of silk painting but the current favourite is lacemaking. There is a picture of my 'heirloom' on my ME page
Ken, I love your paintings, just wish I had space on a wall. But with my own creations, and a stepfather who painted for a living we'd have to move to a much larger house:D

The housemove will happen when Mum-in-law dies(she's 94, so I am not mercenary). Unfortunately she has her own collection of paintings, but we might still find a space when all is sorted. So don't give up hope!:) The ceiling idea is also not bad. I'll run it by the other half

Hi there
I just love making a mess - so any craft does the job for me
I've had a go at knitting, cross stitch, tapestries scrapbooking but always seem to come back to the sewing - Maybe its because I get the results quicker - I used to do porcelain dollmaking for many years and also teach it - I did think about doing reborns but thats as far as it got, I tried ceramics which was ok and at the moment I am putting together another dolls house - but thats totally addictive and nothing else gets done.
There is one craft I am facinated by and would so much like to do it but I just can't get my head round it at all .... thats Tatting .... I love the delicated finish and its a craft that you can take in your pocket ... but sadly it isn't as easy as it looks.. Perhaps I may have another go someday

Fran

Fran, the basics of tatting aren't that diffucult, but I needed someone to show me rather than learning from a book. When I took up bobbin lace my teacher spent just part of a lesson to show me how, because I told her I had attempted it from a book and given up. So find a teacher, which is probably easier said than done.

Ken, your painting is beautiful. I majored in art in high school & 1 year in college, many..many years ago. Took painting classes from time to time, after I got out of school. I have a few hanging in my home. But, they are not nearly, in any way..shape..or form..as good as yours. Your talent is a real blessing. But, I am lucky I can look out my back door and see white tail deer just as beautiful. I will just keep stitching...I do think that is a talent too. Lol, if you start doing ceilings, you could do a lot of traveling. Keep painting!!! Sandy

Ken, nice work! Do you sell in galleries? I used to and used to sell through a museum gift shop. But I hate the whole political mess of being in with the "artsy" folks locally. It gets crazy. I walked away from it for a few years, and now I am getting back into it I am just doing online sales or word of mouth.

I do serious oil on canvas paintings of wildlife, recently did a miniature wolf on a button, and working on a cross bow saw at the moment.

But I also do children's furniture with acrylics. This is one I delivered last week to a local chiropractor's office.

I've turned my hand to most things but my latest love is digital scrapbooking. I love traditional scrapbooking but its just too messy, now I can do it from the comfort of my PC.
Just made a memory book for my Dad's 80th birthday
this is the link (its a big file so takes a while to download) as I also made it into a slideshow

http://www.box.net/shared/fed3k1k0go

thi is one of my efforts if you don't want to wait for the slideshow
I actually have them printed in the states as its cheaper to have them posted from there than to get them done in the uk. They look great at 12 '' x 12''

Hello
I moved over about a month ago

I made albums and books for all occasions.

At the moment, to get started I am selling full sheets of mulberry paper, rubber stamps, toppers - but will lessen these once I start selling my books

Love reading the forums and learning new things - I like it when you ask a question and you receive such a friendly and patient answer (we're not all wizzkids!) - it's nice.

Hi all, I come from a crafty (hehe) family. My sister is an artist in Dublin who works with many media, she just came second in an artist competition in the dirty auld town so she is chuffed.. My mum is a caligrapher and also works with fine embroidery, beading, embossing etc. They are both very talented. Both my grandparents were respected art teachers in fife scotland and some of my grandfathers oils and caligraphy are stunning.
I have recently taken up crafts as I have 2 children 98 and 11 months) and am due another next month.. I slipped a disc inmy back last month and live 25 miles from the nearest large town so I need something to do more than just waiting for sales to keep me busy!
I have started working with wood, doing simple personalised door signs and want to do coat hangers and bedroom wooden decoratons such as mobiles etc.
I am finding it quite hard to find information on the type of paints, varnishes and techniques that would make my crafting easier... was wondering do any of you know any websites dedicated to wood crafting or have any pointers for me. I love doing this and last night finished 30 names (popular irish names!) with a view to mounting them over the week. I will be looking into the american market and also doing irish designs. Anyway, I ramble!!! Allthingstasha x

Thankyou, I am busy but have to take time in the evenings when the house is quiet (or 6am!) to do things just for me... I think sometimes when you have kids you forget who you are and I am fighting this by keeping my brain active! The only thing is not being able to make as much mess as i would like to.
I am hoping to get my craft items in a shop here over the next couple of months but the way I see it is I want to have stock first and enough to also do car boots etc. Still waiting for first sale on the clothes so I suppose its just a wait and see game, and while i am waiting i will keep crafting and posting!!!
Off to have a look around your shops now!! I love looking at other peoples crafts!!! Happy ebidding

There are some really talented people here!

I sew my own clothes and modify regular clothing for my mom, who is bedridden, so her items fit more comfortably and offer better coverage for her. I enjoy piecing quilt tops but dislike quilting, so I take the tops to the Amish who live nearby and pay them to finish the project. Other things I enjoy are knitting, wire-wrapping, beading, drawing, and have just laid in a supply of pipestone to begin working with. We make soy wax candles for our business but somehow that doesn't feel "crafty" anymore. I enjoy designing logos and goofing around with fonts, anything to do with lettering, and have enjoyed calligraphy but seem never to do it anymore.

Here is my contribution. I enjoy cardmaking and scrapbooking, here is my latest creations, card making using 100% recycled materials from old magazines etc. apart from the rubber stamp used to stamp the quotations everything was made from discarded material. the cost of making these cards was 0%. thats the way to beat the credit crunch.

They look great. How do you find the time? (I know you are supposed to be retired)

I always give myself 2 hours a day to do my crafts. keeps the brain active ( what brain i ask myself ). the trouble with retirement is that eBid has taken over my life. I spend so much time listing (sometimes selling) and finding new items that I am busier now than when I was working.and enjoying it more.
