One of the few good ideas the Americans have and it has never appeared over here. Packing the kids off to Summer Camp. I assume it is real and not just something in films and stories.

Have googled it and can not find anything official about it ,just rumours, that it maybe for people who have travelled abroad, and may be a voluntary thing.

The more time other people's kids spend at home the happier I am. It's when they spill out onto the streets bored out of their minds causing mayhem to everyone else I get p'd off.
Kids seem incapable of amusing themselves nowadays. Their first thought of how to pass the time seems to be to destroy something.

I know what you mean, but I just can't understand it, they have everything they want nowdays:eek:, and they still cause havoc on the streets :(

Mel~ at one time I would of disagreed with you.
But since being on this site and seeing the kids, I have to admit I have changed my mind.
There appears to be no parential control at all. So long as they are not bothering the parents, it doesn't seem to matter what they do.
OK~ I'm generalizing, and I normally hate that. But why shout at kids like they do? Are the kids deaf? Dumb?
And when the kids shout back, don't they realize it is learnt behaviour?
And the swearing~
Everyone swears from time to time, but this is just normal conversation for them.
I thought after the Maddie thing, parents would be more aware.
But I've seen 3 and 5 year olds wandering around the site at 1am, while the parents are inside.
One caravan looks like a builders site, with bikes, toys, balls, etc all laying around theirs and the next doors caravan. No regard at all for others.
Have they no pride? And then they wonder why the kids end up in court.
I don't blame the kids, it's the parents who need a talking to.
Gosh~ soap box time~ sorry, but I do feel strongly about this.
The buck starts and stops with the parents, unless the child has special needs. At least that is how I feel.
Rant over~ coffee time:p

How many of us done things as kids, and never told our parents :)
I was no angel as a child and often got into trouble on my 'Explores'. I never engaged in the wanton destruction of things just for the sake of it though. Vandalism just wasn't in my nature and it would never have occurred to me to do it.
I did learn that it was best not to tell the parents when I did get into a scrape. I made the mistake of complaining to my dad after receiving a clip round the ear from the local bobby for trespassing in the railway goods yard. The clip round the ear paled into insignificance to what my dad gave me for getting into trouble with the police. Nowadays of course the parents would be straight down the solicitors seeing have much they could get out of it.
It is not just down to the parents. The whole system has removed any form of guidelines and corrections from the raising of children. So they are, in general, given no standards to live by or respect for others. Even where a parent does instil in their children these values they then go to school where they have to mix with those without them. So the good work is too often undone there.
As I said in a recent thread I believe that parents should be held culpable for the actions of their children where they are below the age of criminal responsibility. They should be hauled before the courts and made to pay for their children's actions.
I know it is the minority that give the majority a bad image. You don't notice the good kids.

Have read this and agree 100%, I done plenty of things and never told my step parents, but it was the normal things, I never done anything to hurt anyone else, :D mine was simply going somewhere but saying i was somewhere else, staying at friends house so i could go out (i had curfews and was punished if i was a minute late), met up with boys (another big no no) ect ect.
I would of been slaughted if they had found out tho

We haven't broken up down here yet Jay ! I can't understand why some schools have finished this early ? I thought all schools had to have a set pattern of six terms now with a slightly longer holiday in the October half term . All schools have to give the same number of days education so I can't understand it

Completely agree with Mel and Shezz on this one.
Kids will only be kids. I love kids, nothing wrong with 99.9% of them.
It is up to parents to instill in them the difference between right and wrong.
And this needs to be backed up by schools, police, neighbours, family and friends.
It's not easy bringing up a child, but it's silly to blame anyone else when that child causes trouble and brings it to your door.
Unless your child has special needs~ in which case, they should be supervised anyway.
It all starts with the parents thro.
Which is why I think parents should be made to stand up in court, and say where they think they went wrong.

Wish they would extend them for several months.
At 8.30 every morning I am awoken by the constant shreiking of little brats wandering past my house on the way to the school a couple of hundreds yards from me.
Its not just the kids - the yelling from the mums is just as bad.
Wont be for long tho - that school is due to demolished to make way for the next runway at Heathrow.

They would likely have no idea as they were raised without these values also. How can they be expected to pass on values they never had?
Someone mentioned 'language' a bit back. I am on the route to a primary school and even for me, an ex-serviceman, the language used by the parents to the children is absolutely shocking. I know that language evolves and what was deemed offensive to one generation becomes the 'norm' in later generations (damn and bloody are fairly innocuous now but were taboo in the past) but still...effing and blinding at toddlers cannot be right. There is something seriously gone wrong in our society.

I live less than 2 miles from the main runway - and the planes make a lot less noise than squealing brats.
The new runway is going to be a similar distance.
The only planes we ever heard were Concorde - and even then, the wind had to be in the wrong direction to make it loud(ish)

Good, that is what Milwaukee did, kept kids out of school if the school had an outbreak. It slowed the flu down a bit.
