Go onto the manufacturers website and find your machine. Normally all the spec is there including PSU wattage

hope that helps

From the little bit I know it should be no problem. I think the dual cores average around 100 watts usage when its humming. :)
Maybe take your cd drive watts number and add on whatever else your computer runs for the grand total of watts needed.

Jay, I think you mean PSU (power supply unit). CPU would be the dual core itself and atached to the motherboard.

As always the bigger the better :D I'd look at 500 +

Normally the ones they stick in the case are the cheaper lower wattage, not really worth having ones.

Replacing it should be a doddle, case of removing and replacing screws, and plugging into motherboard.

If you bought the parts, do you have the invoice? Plus as your pc isn't that old the PSU may even still be under guarantee

Jay, the 450 watt one should be OK. Thats what I have in my case and it runs a dual core processor + 3 hard drives + 2 dvd writers + separate network, graphics and sound cards and I've not had any problems.

If you can afford it. go for one of the supply's that have the larger and much quieter fans.
