you do realize that Jehovah witnesses don't celebrate xmas

and they only knock on your door to try and spread the word of God which is what the bible tells them to do

I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses for about 10 years a while back.

One thing this experience has taught me is to have respect for anyone's right to practice their religion.

If you don't want Jehovah's Witnesses to call at your home - you just need to ask them to add your home to their 'not to call' list.

We had lots of 'not to call' addresses and we always respected other peoples right not to have us visit if they didnt want to.

Anyone who calls at my house (except my mates) without invitation are invading my privacy - doesnt stop all the cold callers.

I dislike all cold calling, whether at the door, or on the phone. I just say no thanks.

Once when I was going door to door with Jehovah's Witnesses one of the doors had a notice on the door saying

"No religious callers except God himself"

We all thought it was dead funny and we didnt knock the door.

Might put one up myself, banning cold callers

PATRIOT73

it says spread the word of God, I don't think many Jehovah witnesses like knocking on doors, but they see it as necessary to spread the word of God

and you won't find God in a church, thats where Christians go ;)
kingdom hall then that where the jevo ang out:p

It always amazes me the number of Double Glazing salesmen that call, I usally say excuse me, then push past them to look at the windows, then say "I was worried there for a moment I thought someone must have pinched my windows" that usually stuns them into silence :D

DG salesmen are yesterdays men. Nowadays it is the uPVC facia, soffits, etc. for the roof. They must have double glazed everything by now.

And presumably extra bits put in about thickness of glass, and how to get a good seal?

Sorry, we are talking about double-glazing salesmen, aren't we?

Just out of interest..... nosey and all...... moonwitch, what made you change your mind about being a jehova witness?

It was basically down to their attitude towards former members.

Lots of things really.

One of the things that bothered me was their attitude towards people with learning disabilities - I was told that it wasnt a big deal that Annie has autism and a severe learning disability - that she would be 'normal' in the new system where everyone would be perfect.

BTW - they used the word 'normal'

My daughter is the way she is - she wouldnt be Annie without the learning disability

I am assuming you have never been to a Kingdom Hall library.

There is one at the back of every Kingdom Hall.

It includes many versions of the bible and we were free to use any of them - not just the one we used at meetings.

what are you now then  apart from an apostate

sounds like the visions of this person

I'm not an apostate - only according to Jehovah's Witnesses.

That's because after I left of my own accord, the elders lied to the congregation and told them I had been disfellowshipped.

This is what happens when you leave and don't turn up at the meeting where they announce this.

I didnt go to the meeting because I was no longer a Jehovah's Witness

I totally agree. I have a cousin that was a JW who was a divorcee and because she decided to marry again to someone outside their group one of her own sons felt it wouldn't be right to come to her wedding! I think this is dreadful and very hurtful. I respect others feel the need to belong to a faith but I'm glad not to take part in any man made religion. I think it just leads to all sorts of conflicts.

I know a guy who was divorced - his wife was a JW and when their child died the dad was made to feel an outsider at the funeral

I describe myself as pagan but I wouldn't hook up with any man made modern form of pagan groups.

We keep geese... *evil grin*

We don't have too many visits from jehovas, double glazing sales men, trick or treat, .... can't think why, we always welcome them onto the property. They immediately seem to be in a hurry to leave, quite odd. Cats behave in a similar manner... and small dogs...

Is there another sort? Religion is a concept created by man.

The original purpose being to keep the rabble compliant by promising them rewards in the next life if they took all the cr@p dished out by the ruling classes without complaint in this life.
