Dispute it. If you're sure they've lost some of the paperwork, call customer service and argue.

Snap! I had exactly the same problem - I sent a copy of the receipt, they wrote back and demanded the original. I told them since they lost the first parcel in the first place, how did I know they weren't going to lose my receipt too. In the end I relented, sent them the original and kept a copy. They lost the original, then ummmed and ahhhed about accepting a copy, but I sent them the recorded delivery where it had been signed for by them on arrival and they gave in and coughed up grudgingly.

I was also told at our local post office that if you take the original receipt into the post office along with the claim forms, the staff can sign on the paperwork that they have seen the original and you can just send them the copy which the post office staff verify as genuine.

This is not uncommon.
I always get proof of postage and staple the documents together.
You should have had a checklist when filling in the form.
Check see if you have ticked all the right boxes.
If so. Ring them up and tell them it was sent

I got ripped off, I sent a slow cooker through the royal mail carefully packed with all sorts of stuff, wrote in big letters around the box "FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE CROCKERY" buyer recieved in broken into 3 pieces, sent me pictures of it too, as I asked for them, asked buyer to wait whilst I sort out complaint with royal mail, they said ok. Next I know 2 weeks later buyer makes claim in peepal, even though id emailed them kept them up to date. PO turned around & told me theyre not responsible for broken crockery & its in their paperwork or whatever that no claims can be made, next I know without warning or advising buyer theyd escalated the damn claim & I lost everything including p&p ffs cost me £15 to send the damn thing & buy those foam chip thingys & bubble wrap

it's often impossible to win with these big companies, although I'm told I don't know when to give up trying!
I reckon it's always worth that extra arguement (sorry, discussion) with them, you might just win.

Once upon a time packages never got lost in the post, they were always returned to the sender. But strangely enough, my eb*y packages that the odd buyer claims has never been delivered, is never returned to sender either. Everytime I do win a claim from the RM they never refund the original postage. Isn't it great when you pay RM to lose your package!!! Everything is sent by recorded delivery now for sure.

I always keep copies of the receipts when making a claim, just in case this sort of thing happens and I have to keep an extra copy for my tax records. I have often wondered if I should insist they accept a copy of the receipt because I need to keep the original for tax records. I always tick the box to have the receipts returned - but they never do.

I have been lucky having all my claims paid in full but everytime they send the original copies back with a discrepency which slows the whole process down. I do get the feeling though they prefer to have everything sent recorded delivery just to get more cash off you. Funny how nothing that has been sent trackable has ever gone astray!

There's a lot of mail gone missing in my village recently!!! Only this last week a silly postman left the keys in his van, and guess what happened.....you're right, someone drove off in it. Gives one a lot of faith in the Royal Mail doesn't it.

Are you sure the PO didn't mean a copy of the receipt for how much you paid originally for the lost item?

I have heard that they are no longer paying out compensation for the value of the lost sale, but only on the value the item cost you to purchase in the first place

Hi Ruth.
The postie in question has since been sacked. Apparently! not only did they get away with the van and it's mail, they also had the keys to dozens of post boxes, so now RM have the job of replacing all the locks.

and think of all the inconvenience and possibly heart ache caused to all those people who never got their mail. In a way I can almost sympathise with the guy for having a "stupid" moment ..... unless of course he was part of the set up. (who said I'm a cynic!)

I've had a few things go missing, and managed to get the money back after loads of messing,so when the last one 'vanished' a few months ago I filled in forms, sent all requested bits of paper - , and then was told they wanted proof of the original cost of the item.
- In the next post the item was returned to me, so I never went down that route but I have a nasty feeling though they will now only pay out what you have paid originally (if you still have proof)
To be honest I think claiming is made really long winded and awkward so you don't want to waste the time filling is claims for smaller items.
