Today Buttons was giving terrible news that she has cancer.

I am devestated by this news and want everyone in the kt to show buttons just how much we appeciate her in the KT, she has really helped a lot of you out when you have needed it, she has made us laugh at her posts, and her rantings :D

Frightening news! My sister was diagnosed with cancer six years ago. I remember how terrified we all were.

Take heart . . . she told us she wasn't going to let it beat her . . . and she didn't! After six years with no recurrence, it looks very, very good.

I just want you to know that my brother had an operation for cancer two years ago, and had to have part of his stomach removed, but has recently taken a tree felling qualification and is canoeing all around the Cornish coast as well as being back at work and playing in a band ! :) Keep your chin up girl and fight it all the way! Reading shezz OP brought a tear to my eye and made a cold shiver go down my spine - sorry - its how I react to horrible news.

It can be beaten - stay positive and draw strength from ALL around you. Remember - its your life, and only let go of it when YOU are ready to - not when something else thinks you should be. Fight it all the way and you WILL beat it.

Hi Buttons -- Lin,

I haven't been in the KT much for some time and when I heard the news about you I knew it was time to come searching. Remember you have lots of friends and they will be rooting for you to beat that monster.

I will be joining the others in prayer for you and waiting for your report that it is better. I will never forget the day that I was told I had cancer and thankfully they caught it in early stages and was able to remove it all and thankfully it has never returned. That was about 30 years ago and I am doing great. Research is producing new things to fight it with. Most of all though I will be praying for you and please accept my HUGS:).

I just got back on line with my old windows 98 computer, but can't email or anything as i can't be bothered setting them up and I havent got antivirus.

Right my butt is sore from having the bone marrow Biopsy and I have to go for more CT scans to see if they can find any lymph node in my chest, seems they can't give me any treatment till they can easily get to a lympm node. They said all the otheres are too deep and to near to major organs and its too dangerous to get to them, I don't really understand it all am so confused.

Glad to see you are back online - somehow! It must all be very confusing for you. I found an advice leaflet at work the other day and it said it is good to write a list of questions - as they come to you - so that when you next see your consultant you can remember what you wanted to ask him, as sometimes the stress of the occasion causes your mind to go blank!

Sorry to hear of your discomfort buttons. Stay strong, but know it is ok to cry or get mad about an unfair and mean disorder. Don't worry about not understanding everything now, you will understand more as you move forward in your treatment. Ask questions of your health care providers. Keep your chin up & don't forget your daily dose of laughter (no matter what). :)

Anger is good - like other folks have said - hit something, kick something but please don't aim for the dog / cat - and nothing breakable - cos that only makes matters worse.

As others have also said - when you think of questions, jot them down cos when you're there with the doctors and consultants all questions literally just vanish into thin air and what you wanted to ask gets forgotten - until you're walking back to the car then they come flooding back to you.

Take each day as it comes. You will beat it - you can beat it. Stay strong and stay mad. If you've any religious beliefs take a trip to the church / chapel of your faith and stand in front of the alter and yell, scream, swear and cuss to your hearts content. I remember doing that once and the vicar was in the church and he heard me. I meekly appologised for my behaviour and he said .... Don't worry lass, I think under the circumstances, you're allowed to be outraged. I felt tons better - not because of what I'd done, but by what he said.

We're all with you hun all the way. Anytime you need one on one - drop any one of us a pm and we'll be there for you. I know I will be anyway.

Apart from being fed up of fighting with dam computers to get on line pretty dam mad. I have to go to hospital on Monday to see an aneathetist..........err why is this when I havent an opp booked yet, then I have to go on Wednesday as well for another scan, 2 hour roud trip each time could they not get their dam act together...........................yes I am in a bad mood:p

Why not give them a call & see if you could see anesthesist on Wednesday. Health professionals sometimes need help coordinating the myriad of appointments,etc. to help the client's life go smoother. Don't be reluctant to speak up in terms of scheduling issues and more importantly treatment issues.

Though Iam new here and have not yet had the pleasure of chit chatting with you I would like to share a quick stories of encouragement.

Though I do not know what form of cancer you have my Uncle was diagnased with stage 5 Esophagial (sp?) cancer which is pretty much ALL THE TIME fatal, as they can't remove any part of your esophagus. He kept his attitutde as positive as could be expected and thought of his family and those that cared for him. After some tough times with chemo and he had to go under radiation treatment as well, he went into remission. This is when Doctors gave him 6 months to live. He has had atleast 2 years of extra time and has enjoyed seeing his only child, his daughter off to college, and we are still praying that he stays in remission but he has not wasted one single "extra" day he received as we never know when that car just might hit us. But he was given no time and it is less then 2% reission rate for his stage and type of cancer, so know matter what the doctors tell you, always believe in the power of will and positive thinking.

Cheers and please make sure that you talk with trusted friends that have a good ear, the one that know when to reply and also know when to just listen and give hugs, but you must talk about everything.

I've only just read this thread, and I am so sorry to hear of your illness. Cancer affects so many people and it saddens everybody.

The above is good advise. If you feel that your appointments are too far ahead in the future, you should ring them up and ask for an earlier appointment.... in fact, try insisting on it....

Get well soon, and I hear that lots of exercise helps :confused:

Merlin, Smiffy, I am in a absolute stinking mood today, think the why me's are setting in and the light is dawning on what i have.
Someone a bit back said about going i the church and swearig and screaming. well I didn't tell anyone what i wanted to do because not everyone new what had been happening to me before, cept Shezz, every dam thing that could go wrong did starting with my husbands son being out shopping and ending up in hospital and brain dead in the end, Then Hubby had an opperation on one eye that went wrong, then things startet to go wrong in the house, in fact everything has gone wrong, we had to have our cat put to sleep and now my beloved little yorkie has a tumor growing down her leg, now just when we need it the car has gone wrong ( won't go if it starts to rain), now my computer has broken. Well I was going to load everything on a lorry and go and tip it all in the church grounds, i had all my jewelery ready collecting anything of value along the way, I was going to tip it all there telling him to have the flipping lot now ( stronger word to be added there), I mean why wait just take it. Think the people next door think i have gone nuts keep shouting my head off.

I think under the circumstances your allowed - I know that stage that you're at - so angry - so many questions - and the why me.

Is there a little job that you can do, that allows you to work off your anger - digging a garden, breaking up stones - that sort of thing which calls for creativity in a destructive form - where you can transport the anger into the task.

I know that it appears that things have gone against you - sadly life is like that - one thing after another - and then just when you think you're on top of it all - another thing happens to knock you back down again. I know its difficult, but you need to focus on something positive - is there a birthday coming up that you can turn your energy towards - something along those lines.

You probably feel that you want to be on your own a lot with your own thoughts. You may even feel that you're not good company right now - you need to be around people that have a stronger character than you to force you to do things, and keep you positive - maybe even dress up and go dancing or something to work as a total distraction so you feel 'normal' again. Do something that makes you feel good about yourself - give your self esteem and confidence a well deserved boost - its taken a knock and both you and your confidence need a healthy boost right about now.

Re the car - I'm not too up on modern day engines (too much like spaghetti junction) but it used to be simple to fix when a car wouldn't start in the rain - it was either condensation in the distributor cap causing the plugs not to spark, or the battery connectors.

I don't know if it helps, but I hope it does.

This is a safe place for you to get it out! Although I must admit I pity Merlin! Your anger towards the church & ultimately God is not an unusual reaction. Believe me, God can take more than Merlin. I can imagine the emotions you're going through right now, but please let them out. Don't bottle things up.

Lin, I'm new to the ebid community and from another country, do not share in your current challenges but have had plenty of my own.

Many of us, no matter where we are brought up, are raised to withhold emotions such as anger, fear, etc......but these are truthful responses to the crap life doles out. Often in huge doses. When we express this rage we may feel better on one hand for having let it out, yet worse at the same time. My personal experience is that only by expressing these feelings can we prevent them from destroying us; only by blowing away the current smoke can we clearly see the next step on the path.

Hi, everyone, thank you so much sorry i havent been on for a couple of days, but just felt so ill and yesterday was a hospital visit, thursday is another CT scan of my chest cavity this time as they are hoping to find enlarged lymph nodes there near the surface as they can't get to any of the others as they said its too dangerous as they are too deep and too near major organs, and also because i had major surgery in the past, I don't really understand any of it but they say they cant give me any treatment till they find a couple they can get at easily and do a biopsy, so I am just left the same :(

Hi Everyone, just got my appointment this morning for my opp so they can take biopsy's of my lymph nodes, its on the 19th then after that i will have to wait for the results and then they can decide what mix of chemo they will give to me. someone told me that there will be a clinical meeting first but they are not involved so just taking that with a pinch.
I always thought that if you were having an opp that they took you in the day/ night before but they told me to ring before i left for the hospital in the morning to make sure there is a bed available:eek:

When i went in for my op I went the day before BUT I had to call at 7am to check the bed situation.....there was a problem so I went and had a hearty breakfast at morrissons and then got a call to make my way in for after lunch.....I didnt go on the ward I should have gone on untill AFTER my op.....

My friend did it last week at her doctors, they told her there was no appointments so she went down and sat there, when asked she said rather loudly, don't you think that a cancer patient should have preference to people with a cold or just want free paracetamol, I will sit here and wait thanks, anyway they let her see the doc in the end, and good for her as well.

When I went in for my sinus op last year I had to turn up on the day, not only that, despite my reaction to the general anaesthetic (the doctor said it looked like I'd been wiped out, my daughter said I looked terrible), and being very very weak, they wouldn't let me stay overnight, someone I didn't know came along, declared he thought I was fine, and basically told me to go. The nurses thought I should stay.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, take someone with you who is strong enough to bat for you when you can't ie after the op when you've been subject to anaesthesia. My husband is a damp squib who lets just anyone walk all over him, and certainly no good in that situation, I could have done with someone with a backbone. As it turned out I had an infection that needed a mega dose of antibiotics to get rid of, and I spent the next few days completely flattened apart from occasional forays to the kitchen to get something to eat or drink. I think a couple of days (or even overnight) recovering in hospital would have made recovery a lot quicker and more pleasant.

Lin can you not call the doctor in it might actully push things forward a bit, especially if you having trouble with standing or sitting, and dont sit there thinking yeah but, you gotta do it, push it,

I only have a week to wait for my biopsy opp now, and i would not call my doctor in as at the moment I don't want anything to do with him.
The only person I trust is my Lady doctor at the hospital, I think they are going to find out what the heck this surgeon is planning to do.
She is lovely and has sorted the hospital transport people out, I have had up to 3 cars there and back in one week and one day they had no cars so she sent and ambulance:)
I think part of the problem is I won't go out, only went out once and some kind sole said, my god whats wrong with you, you look awful, not nice and I came home in tears......... soft sod ain't I

Lin I know i told you before hun but PALS could be your best friend.

You have nothing to lose by giving them a ring at least they will fight your corner.

Soft sod doesn't come into it. Your head must be all over the place and
even simple things become difficult to cope with.

Don't forget I do know some of what you are going through,

The first thing I did when I was diagnosed was write out my will pmsl
Then I came out fighting.

I'm classed as high risk after my blood clot so probably not :rolleyes: just makes me soooooo angry, should have realised I wasn't going to get anywhere :mad:

Hi Shelly, they gave me injectins to prevent blood clots in Bodelwyddan when I had an opp there can't you ask about them,
Mike got on to The hospital this morning and they have booked me a bed and found out what opp I am having and it's the one that the surgeon didn't want to do in the first place ( not happy about that but they can't find any enlarge nodes in my chest cavity, and thats good for me out come wise)
They also said I have two hernias at my belly button so he will fix them as well ( they were my fault, I can remember doing them )

They are giving me Clexane before and after, they gave it me last time but I still ended up with a clot in my lung. Think they panicking as it was their fault as they wouldn't listen to me.

Glad Mike has got some sense out of them, whatever it is they decide to do, let's hope they do it soon. PMSL at throwing hernia ops in as well, may as well get monies worth eh :)
