I'm getting the password problem - just as I was about to list something. I get -
"The server at uk.test.ebid.net at Restriced Area requires a username and password" The message pop-up from my windows browser goes on to a warning about insecure sending manner etc.

Threw me off the site when I refused to enter the details then when I tried to enter the ebid address on the address bar it happened again. Restarted computer, same problem but this time it took me to my "about me page" and I got here from there - it is reassuring to know I'm not the only one with the problem but I was wondering if someone's being malicious....

Annoying when I'm trying to get some items up on a new shop I've just opened....I'm going to leave it for a while and try later, other (boring) things to do like cleaning.

Hi spaceman,

I got the same thing whilst trying to sign into my ebid...unfortunately i didn't notice it was a basic authentication without the security and so signed in...

Now i am wondering if i have made a big mistake and signed in to a rogue site somewhere, i can't even get back in to change my password now either...

Lets hope we get some clarification about this problem from Gazza or Mark, at least we will then know where we stand one way or another...

Hugs, A Very Worried Arline xxx

Ps, Please add me to the tea queue Kimbo, need a cuppa more than anything right now :) Hugs, Arline...

Hi Arline,

I didn't sign in to that box, as it said it would be sent in an insecure manner, managed to get rid of the box after many goes at it, then Iogged out but couldn't sign in again, then managed to get into the forums but then that went crazy, so logged out, then managed to go to the forums again and when I tried to post, it asked me to log in, when you do this you get http instead of https and the 's' meaning secure, and didn't think this was a problem as there is never the 's' on the end when you have to sign in to the forums, which to be quite honest is very strange and I wish Gazza would change this, unless it is just when I sign into the forums.

Best wishes and take care :)

LOL Actually, that can't have been one I made, I never leave the bag in - it's a pet hate. :D If somebody makes me a cuppa and puts the milk in before they take the bag out, I have to look away! Anyway, if I was making that much tea, I'd use loose leaves. So if you got a mouthful of leaves *then* you could blame me. :D

phew - that was not nice!!
Seems OK now, but hope it hasn't stopped anyone from bidding on the one and only item that is selling in my shop........
After being down for hours yesterday and these problems today I'm wondering just how stable ebid is. Does this sort of thing happen often?

ah well, time to start listing again

I'd say not *very* often, but still *too* often. I can live with the planned outages, because of the scale of the operation. And I don't mind having a bit of fun with cups of tea being offered around to lighten the mood... but the reality is that planned upgrades should *not* causes further outages and problems and if they do, they ain't bally well planned *enough*.

The notice that goes up to say something's being changed is very helpful, but it should not be making us think: 1. I wonder how much longer it will really take, and 2. I wonder what they'll break this time.

I still love it here, and I'll put up with its little faults for the benefits that out-weigh them, but it would be lovely to see these things weeded out, and to be able to recommend it to friends without the current proviso of "it's a little flaky, but..." that I have to apply! :)

Hi Kimbo, mmm, bit worrying that, don't like the idea that my customers will find I'm moving to an unstable site. Mind you, the number of customers on evilbay has sunk to an all time low - too much cheap chinese jewellery being listed, frequently with ridiculous p&p, but still gets placed way above mine in searches.
Seems odd that the site has been going for 9 years and yet they still have these sort of problems - doesn't give me much confidence .. still, onwards and upwards as they say (but what on earth does it mean!)
