OK I'm a little hesitant to stick my nose in here since I'm a US citizen, but here's my remark anyway. I thought the British people gave very high opinion ratings to the royal family during WWII when they visited bombed-out neighborhoods and didn't flee to live in safer rural areas themselves. It would be very maddening to be at the mercy of your parliament and budget officers if they approve this increase. Maybe people should suggest jettisoning a few cars, personal jewels, helicopter and airplane flights, and other luxury items. DUH! I don't think anybody would think less of the royals if that would happen.

Texasada no youre quite welcome to pop in here. Info on Royal family, cavemen didnt have royals, so originally the royals were & still are PIRATES. All they do is ponce off the tax payer only difference is their GIRO is a hell of alot bigger than anyone elses. I myself prefer anarchy . no only joking, its bad enough having the royals non are English or Brit, originally as they died years ago ww1 and got replaced via russia etc whoever had a distant relative. ANyhow enough of the far gone history. I recon they shouldnt get what theyre paid, they have enough free houses no mortgage no shopping to do, tax payers pay for all of that & she even gets to lick her bottom on a stamp ;)

Ok, so the Queen wants an increase to pay her staff, run her business as a monarch and repair Buck house.
If the Queen said fine, no increase & I'm off would we notice we were better off, whoops no way, all those retainers would be claiming unemployment and other benefits, we would still be paying for Buck House and a lot of other residences(because we own them) and a President would step up and his wife would want Buck house decorated to her taste every 4 years or so. The Queen - she would retire to one of her private estates, live frugally within her means and enjoy her retirement, Prince Charles would need to tailor his life style and become a country Landowner but since he is already in charge of one of the largest of UKs business conglomerates I don't think he'll suffer much. Who would suffer - the UK for losing tourist revenue and charities for losing their most prominent fundraisers.

Oh and do we really want the armed forces swearing allegiance to whichever twat is currently warming his backside at no10?.

Tell her to start using the cheap supermarkets and to cancel her holidays and to start getting her clothes from the charity shops like the feckin' rest of us. I recomend getting some extra blankets there as well, you know, the one's that are usually used for pet bedding, she can then cut her heating bills and only suffer from mild hypothermia.
