I've seen a fair few posts saying, nothing is selling, there are no buyers, etc, etc, etc...

I've only been a member for 8 days (came over from 'elsewhere')... listed only two items, partly because I've been a bit slow, partly because my enthusiasm has taken a battering from another online auction site.

To be honest, the items I had listed were pretty obscure and may well have attracted no bids even on the 'other site' without a few relistings...

Well... to cut a long story, well not exactly short, but shortish... I sold one tonight, received instant payment, and I'm a happy person...

I do this mostly for fun, okay a bit of extra cash is cool, but not the main incentive. It's been worth joining ebid just for the people in the forums, now I'm selling stuff as well... I'm having fun again :D

I had quite a flat period in the middle of last month but sales are going extremely well now. I've sold lots of vintage toys, several items of architectural salvage, some antique prints and the odd book or two. Added a few buddy points to my total for buyers signing up as well.

I think that I will struggle with the sort of item that I sell, I think they will sell better towards the christmas period (late Oct - Dec 20th app) But that's just my point of view about my items.

I was dubious about listing everything again on another site but wow it's so easy! *Still has a lot more to list though*

Anyway, we had our first sale on eBid at 08:10 this am & we're well chuffed! All packed & posted too...............may it continue!

If it does, then feebay's listings are coming off! Not that I ever listed mch on there though.

what many don`t realise is there are buyers here but if the items are not listed then they cannot buy ,
just keep listing no matter what it is give the buyers the opportunity to buy

well done you folks

:D YAY! Well done CoastalCoder and C4K great to hear the news.

C4K put a signature link to your listings as this will help your sales. This thread tells you how to do it. http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread.php?t=100959 (http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread.php?t=100959)

Thank you. It's like any market place, be it real world or virtual... the more sellers and diversity of items for sale, the more customers you’ll attract, and then the more sellers… and that takes time.

My only worry is that a lot of the people arriving from the ‘other side’ seem to be trying to encourage all the things that we left there because of… e.g. maybe you should make this compulsory, or force people to do that…

This is what is killing the ‘other side’…

I was reading a thread regarding, should it be compulsory to make people fill in the ‘about me’ bit of the seller profile, otherwise people will not want to buy from them… well… don’t buy from them is the answer… if you walk down a high street you don’t go in the shop that has dirty windows and shabby stock and soon that shop dies, and is replaced by a nice shiny new shop that prospers. But you don’t send a bunch of guys around there to tell them that they must sell nice stock in a nice way or you’ll smash their windows in… also, forcing people to do this doesn’t make them a good seller… just the same seller who was forced to fill in some information…

Obviously there are occasions where some intervention is required, with regard to fraud and the like, but on the whole, communities like this can be ‘self policing’.

Well that’s my two pence, for what it’s worth :)
